Planetary chart
I have one. It says to use it with E to pin the location in my exosuit display. Does this have to be done on a planet? Does it differ, depending on where you activate it?

Please excuse the newbie questions, I'm still very new at this.

If you want to discover something on a certain planet, then use it there, although it doesn't guarantee it will find it on that planet. Otherwise just use it wherever you want.

If you're on pc, you hover over the map in you inventory and hold E. After it does the scan animation, the location will show up on your hud and visor to show you where to go. You will need to arrive at the location to clear it from your hud before using another map of the same kind on the same planet. Most maps can also be used in space, but will choose a location on a random planet. If you are on a planet or in a planet's atmosphere and use the map, it should find a location on that planet, unless there isn't one available. Sometimes it will take you to a location you have already visited, especially if there are no more new locations.

Don't worry about wasting it. They're extremely cheap and readily available from any Space Station Cartographer. : )

Ok, I did that. I think. I now have a new target, right?

Should be a blue icon of some sort on your HUD. May also be easier to see if you take off in your starship.

You can use 'em anywhere, in your ship, in a space station, whatever.

What it finds is random for that map type.

Still doesn't replace a real planetary map.
