Every developed system (if it has an active space station, it's developed) has one (sometimes two) exotic ship(s).

There are essentially two ways to get an exotic ship.

A. Put in time exploring and waiting at space stations and trading outposts (the ones with 7 landing pads) until an exotic flies in. It will eventually.

B. Collect all the glyphs so you can use a portal and then go online and watch a youtube that shows you a ship you like (or the portal exchange) and get the glyphs and travel to that system and watch for the exotic of your choice to come in.

Personally, I love exploring and finding my own ships. It takes time, but I get a sense of achievement when I did it myself. But that's just me.

go to a system with strong economy, land on a trading outpost. wait for the first wawe of ships, then reload, and reload again till one appears.

I've always found it best to not go looking for an exotic, but ensure I have 12 million units to spare if one shows up. It can be rather frustrating sitting at a trading post for hours.

The only tricks I've found is to put down a save beacon at the trading post and keep reloading until one appears. Also, make sure your own ship is on the ground as it allows one more ship to land on the landing pads.

Spend a lot of time on trading posts or archive buildings waiting for them, that's all you can do. It's on these places that the most ships will land, so you increase the probability to meet them. All systems have low spawning prob for exotics, the system you are in doesn't make a big difference.

I explore a lot, found one, took a long time, bought it. It's a try wing.

Add me if you want, I have a spare S class exotic with pretty good stats you can have. Trading ships is as simple as me trading with an npc and you reclaiming it for free. I think a picture I uploaded of it is still up. It's a blue/ black with gold decals, though it only has the basic equipment on it.

Edit, here it is. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2612566108

Are Trading Posts better for finding them than space stations? Or is either equally good?

I seem to have better luck with space stations. The key is finding the right system for them to spawn. Your freighter, stations on planets, and the space station all can have one land.

First, look for "wealthy" economy in the galaxy map. The spawn rate is 1 to 2% chance for exotic. there's only ever 1 at a time in a system. It's possible you will have to go through up to 220 ships before you will find an exotic.

Do note, there's a few ships placed in the universe that you can freely claim. Though it will require you to know how to use galaxy coordinates, and it's not truly free. You will have to spend fuel and time actually finding them...

Anyways, the offer stands if you or anyone else wants mine. I'll eventually replace it with a white exotic when I get bored enough to actually go searching. I won't be on until tomorrow though.

at trading posts the ships appears much faster than in space stations. just wait for the first wawe, then reload, and so on. look at the sky to the direction from where they come from, and if you dont see it just reload, dont wait them to land. i think this way you can get one in an hour.

I don't really get the idea of exotic ships, except of the look they have nothing special and are all very small, I have 3 of those on my freighter and still using B-class ship, largest(number of slots avaliable) I found

I just stumble on them usually with maps as i am looking for scrap.

Thought the Exotics were all Higher minimum Specs all around.

All the S-class exotic ships I find online look like a ball with stubby wings, a ball with a tall tail/two tails or a mutated squid. Not sure that's really worth it.
