Trying to mod game
So tried to mod the game to get rid of all those asteroids and found out on the nexus website they have a mod manger called vortex. I tried it out yet doesn't seem like it does anything. When I go into the game still looks the same to me, asteroids everywhere. I see in Vortex it says mod is enabled. Is there anything else I need to do? Also anyone else use Vortex to download their mods for this game or should I just do it manually myself?

Simple question since I have never used the MOD manager, have you ensured that the file DISABLEMODS.txt has been renamed or deleted?

Delete DISABLEMODS.txt in PCBANKS/MODS folder
I suggest using deployment method: move deployment (Experimental)
it places the mods directly to the folder, so it should work 100%

Do things manually; forget Vortex. Just open the zip file and put the appropriate PAK in PCBANKS\MODS.

The fact that there are a lot of conflicts between mods I recommend using AMUMSS[www.nexusmods.com] instead when possible (mod author providing lua script). With that in case game gets updated you just rerun AMUMSS and it automatically updates the mods to the latest game version instead of you waiting for the mod author to update the mod. Just make sure to select "combined" format when running AMUMSS and remove older combined mod package from the mods directory after each run.

This seems too good to be true! I stopped using mods in NMS because they are so often disabled by a new patch.

Some mod authors are lazy and never provide the script, sometimes it can be found in comments section made by someone else
Or created manually by unpacking the mod and comparing the modified file with the original one

Though there's mod author that update the files and changes LUA occasionally upon version update.

every patch, you need to update the mods as well, though recompiling using LUA also works. However, some author update their LUA in updates too.

It means the author didn't make it with AMUMSS as you can get every LUA of the mods that is made by AMUMSS by decompiling it in AMUMSS > drop the pak to modscript alone and run buildmod.exe

Lol you know a lot of modders just do it for fun in their spare time and share them. But yeah, guess that's lazy to you.

You get what you pay for :steamhappy: (seriously we get a lot more than we pay for from the modders)

We definitely need to thank the modders that fix bugs that HG never seems to bother with, and in some cases making HUGE gameplay improvements (Redmas). and if was not clear to all looking at this thread, every single patch or update replaces that DISABLEMODS document. Just delete it every time.

when I look I dont see that so I think Vortex got rid of it.
Krash Megiddo Sep 30, 2021 @ 11:58am
I doubt Vortex knows anything about that file.
kwesidbz21 Sep 30, 2021 @ 12:25pm
so should I just uninstall Vortex?
