I can certainly see how this can be annoying. Maybe while I play I unconsciously just auto correct my direction. (which is probably true, a lot of years mashing on WASD) I also naturally jetpack over some tough terrain as well.
I reinstalled the game because I felt like giving it another try but immediately got turned off by it again when I got reminded of this issue.
It bothers me a lot that my character moves on its own.
For the movement correction when walking towards, that seems to be a permanent feature. Can't do much with it.
Just use your jetpack to climb/pass through harsh terrain instead of brute forcing it Skyrim-like
I can make adjustments on my own, I don't need the game to do that for me. No Mans Sky is the only game I ever played so far that does this.
Especially for small rocks such as the one 2 seconds in, the character should move over that, not around it.
Haven't tried the game in a long while. I'll try jetpacking around more when I install the game again.
Every other games makes your character simply stop or keep walking against the terrain. It doesn't make your character turn. This has nothing to do with "slightly angled terrain". This also happens with large rocks, as can be seen in the video. Whenever the character collides with something, the game corrects and makes the character move around the object. Not to mention that the slopes, as seen in the video I posted, aren't even that steep for video game standards.
This happens in barely any other game. I challenge you, load up any other game and try it out.
The real problem with this is that the movements aren't slight, they completely change the direction the character is travelling in - Even in first person.
Imagine loading up battlefield or CoD and your character suddenly changed direction without your input, that'd be weird wouldn't it?
You can actually see both examples in either Read Dead or GTA. When running up against the terrain, your character will veer in the direction the slope takes you, but if you run strait into a flat wall, you just run in place against the wall.
The big difference here is that NMS uses HUNDREDS of triangles in an small area due to how the terrain works. It's very different than other games in this aspect. This is 100% the angle of the terrain effecting your direction.
