How to get Vortex Mod manager to work ???
Forgive me but I'm elderly and not very good with computers ....

I've manually installed a few mods and everything is working fine ... but I thought I'd try the Vortex Mod Manager to help me manage them and build an even better game ... but I'm stuck straight away and I thought I'd ask for help here.

I've selected the "location" for No Man's Sky and that is ...

C/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/No Mans Sky/Binaries

May I point out that I couldn't actually see the .exe for NMS following this path but I manually confirmed that is where the .exe is

But I get an error message saying ...
"Failed to set game mode ... Mod directory missing C:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/No mans Sky/binaries/GAMEDATA/PCBANKS/MODS"

... and then I noticed that that file path is wrong ...

The /GAMEDATA folder isn't inside the Binaries folder as listed in that path ... It's actually in the /No Mans Sky folder with Binaries

Has anyone had this problem before??
Does Vortex actually work for NMS?

I've done a google search for an answer but I'm not finding anything ... although it doesn't help that NMS actually have and use the words "Vortex" and "Nexus" for other things and this clutters up my search results.

Please don't assume that I know what I'm talking about with my above description of the problem.
It's mostly me copying words out from the screen in front of me ... sorry

Hi you can try running the game search in Vortex again so this will look for the right exe for No Mans Sky, to do that go to where you have installed Vortex usually it's ( C > Program files > Black Tree Gaming Ltd > Vortex ) and just click on the Vortex EXE. and when it finds the EXE just click on the red tick to confirm the games path, also make sure that you have got both the mods and game on the same drive otherwise Vortex can't deploy the mods.

Hope this may help lets us know.

But to be honest the files for No Mans Sky are so small its just as easy to carry on installing them manually as Vortex is more for the bigger types of mods for Skyrim / Fallout ect

Thank you very much for your help ...

Vortex does find the game and it's says it's "managed"
It's then when I get the error message.
"Failed to set game mode ... Mod directory missing C:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/No mans Sky/binaries/GAMEDATA/PCBANKS/MODS"

And it's then that I noticed that the file path it was searching for was incorrect.
I have created the "MOD" folder on the same drive but that path is ..
"C:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/No mans Sky/GAMEDATA/PCBANKS/MODS" ....

I'll just do as you say and keep installing manually as it works fine.
I just thought that NMS would be a good intro into using Vortex as I'd probably only have 15-20 mods.
I'm a little confused about this "underscore" method to sort the mods and thought Vortex would help ... it's not to be, unfortunately ...

I also heavily mod both Skyrim and F4 but I use Mod Organiser (MO2) to do that.

Maybe, someday, someone will write a nice simple tool for NMS ... you know ... idiot proof ...

But, again, Groovaholic ... many thanks for your time and input ... it was most appreciated.

Hi understand if your just going to carry on with manual install of mods but I'm not sure if this will make any difference but the only difference i can see between mine to yours is the path name : if yours is C:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/No mans Sky/binaries/GAMEDATA/PCBANKS/MODS" try at the end "Mods" and not MODS, sometimes the path does have to be exact ? its worth a try if nothing els ::steamhappy:

Ohh .. and to Groovaholic ...

I tried changing the MODS to Mods but no luck ...
Vortex still thinks the GAMEDATA/PCBANKS/Mods is in the Binaries folder
