Disappearing Beacon Markers and other Beacon issues
I've noticed that beacon markers (not the beacon itself) are no longer permanent and disappear a few minutes after loading the game. Just like ships in one's frigate. Just like the doors on cuboids. I suspect this is part of the behind-the-scenes effort to make the game playable for the bulk of humanity: by removing as many unneeded objects at any one time and reducing the graphic processing workload.

I would like to point out that beacon markers on the horizon need to be up more than a minute. I prefer them up all the time, 24/7, as they were in NEXT. I use them for navigation. They are pointless if they disappear after travelling just a few feet toward them. If I build a base, because all other markers also disappear and because hotspots have to be viewed in a viewer, I use beacons to mark hotspot locations. But doing so is pointless if one can't see their markers any more after a minute or two. And it's insanely frustrating to have to keep loading the whole game again just to get them to reappear.

Also now that bases have to be carefully planned and located relative to resources, beacons, like exovehicles and ships, need to have DISTANCE readings on them. Because the beacons are so messed up now, I have just been using exovehicles to mark hotspots....that way they can be seen all the time on the horizon and you get distance measurements.

PS. Here's the improved image sequence showing multiple beacon markers disappearing after surveying:

All beacon markers disappear after surveying and won't reappear until you quit and reload. Just like ships disappear in your freighter. I was later able to find an interesting glitch that allowed me to save one beacon after...I have to work out the details first though, it has something to do with highlighting that particular beacon and maybe saving or such...not quite sure yet, but it allows one beacon to persist. This particular glitch also happened outside the 1000 u max perimeter, so I have a few variables to play with here.

I hadn't noticed it with beacons, but I had noticed this bug with lots of other icons in the regular visor-salvageable tech and so on, will all disappear if you switch from survey to regular. I've raised it with HG via a bug report.

I say I hadn't noticed it with Beacons...but I had stopped using them after noticing that I couldn't find any of their icons. Might be the same issue, will try again, cheers.

Yep, it's the same bug. I notice other user marker icons also disappear as well as the beacon markers. For example, if you use the survey visor after placing a temp marker (on the PC, key E while in survey or scan mode), you won't be able to see it any more...which defeats the purpose of the marker to begin with.

The portal example you give (first screenshots) are bad examples because: Once used, portal markers will disappear. And every other location you visit will cause their markers to disappear, that's normal, that was so before Beyond and still applies.
My 'beacon' markers never go away, but you can at maximum have 5 on every planet, then you must remove one.

The statement you made doesn't even make sense because the game doesn't let you place more than 5 beacons to begin with, so there is never any to remove. And it has nothing to do with this bug. If the visor is not used then the markers never go away....they are permanent as would be expected. I have never seen a portal marker "disappear" except with this bug, exclusive to Beyond. In fact beacons I placed on portals 2 years ago when I first started the game are still there, as are the markers. Except when the survey visor is turned on.

Ok, with visors: I use only custom markers, for example to spot buried treasures etc. Once I go there and find the treasure the markers will go away, and that's GOOD, otherwise they disturb. Is it that what you mean? I can - still through the visor - mark certain buildings, they will NOT go away, even if I enter my ship and fly away. That's also GOOD, afterall I want still to reach the marker!

It may not please you, but: I cannot confirm that I have any problems with markers since Beyond, and I play a lot and test a lot, except this big issue: the frigate repair icons that don't appear when a frigate is damaged, this is a REAL nuisance.

I have run into the same or a similar problem since Beyond dropped, and likewise suspect it has something to do with either use of the analysis visor, and/or use of the new "temporary markers".

I have tried to link to my previous post on this subject "Beacons behaving badly?" but the mechanism for doing so currently escapes me - a search in this forum does show the post I made under that title, though
.
COPY OF ORIGINAL POST

"Beacons (imo) were one of the most generally useful additions to NMS since launch. Since Beyond has dropped, their behaviour has changed for the worse!

I am currently finding that beacons deployed (which I have used to PERMANENTLY mark a POI ) the display vanishes at unpredictable times - which actually defeats their purpose. The beacons affected remain in place, but are impossible to locate, unless other means of identification can be used - which is usually NOT the case unfortunately.

I am unsure as to how/why this happens but suspect it is related to the new ability to place temporary markers, which is useful when locating "hot spots" for various resources.

If others are facing the same problem, I will submit a formal bug report on this issue, so await your feedback."

A solution, or work around for this would be welcome though.

It must be a MP related problem because I don't play MP and never have problems with beacons. BTW we should speak the right NMS language: they are called Save Beacons if it's that what you mean. I use them in 3 different colors that I can set, I can do as hard as I want, I don't lose their stellar icon.

how are your custom waypoints by the way? F (visor) and then press E where u want a waypoint.
maybe they'll stick?

Yes, you can mark every icon you see in your visor to guide you, also you an set it just everywhere, all with E.

I wasn't playing multiplayer. Always have it turned off because it sometimes is not too stable.

At first I thought they fixed it already, but instead, I just found a glitch which can preserve one of the beacon markers through surveying. I''m not entirely sure yet, but I think if you highlight "E" the beacon BEFORE you survey, it will stay on. I did *something* right now that preserved one beacon marker,....all the others though disappeared as usual after surveying.

Sigh. It takes you all of 10 seconds to confirm. Place a save beacon. See the icon. Now use your hotspot analysis visor for a half second. Boom. ALL beacon icons will disappear even when you switch back to your regular scanner. The icons will not return until you remove and replace the beacon or reload a save. This is 100% reproducible 100% of the time in both the regular and experimental builds, with multiplayer enabled or disabled.

Ok I check that, but I wonder why you would use the visor after placing them, but I digress...
Zorro 14 Thg09, 2019 @ 9:41pm
Uhhh because save beacons have numerous uses that happen before and after surveying? I just started building several bases on a planet I've named Arrakis from Frank Herbert's Dune novels. I'm placing the bases at geographically accurate locations on the planet that match the locations in the novels. To do that I had to first place color coded save beacons at the North and South poles of the planet. So the moment I find an area that geographically matches the area's location in the novels, I lose both beacon icons the moment I start scanning for electromagnetic hotspots. So I have to reload the save once I've set the base computer so I can find the next spot on the build list.

No sorry, no icon going away. That's what I see before and after using the visor with F centering on the icon for much more than 10 seconds...

Look away from the beacon when you use the analysis visor (the yellow visor, not the blue one). 😉

I just noticed this happening tonight.
After using the Survey Visor, I could not see any Beacons. But they were visible after I reloaded.
Grrr. Guess I'll go Giles a bug report.
