Electromagnetic hot spots.
Is there a way to find the EM spots? I have a few hours invested in scanning now and all I have found are mineral and gas spots.

Move to another area, you will find one,.

I once found an S class electromagnetic hotspot on one of those weird planets, with like bones or something.

I have tried multiple planets and found multiple hot spots on some of those planets. Just no EM spots... So no special key or anything, just luck.. I will keep trying.

Just keep looking. I found one in a shallow lake once!

I just did a big circle around a potential base location. As you note, kept running into gas and stuff I was not interested in. About three quarters around, I finally ran into an EM hotspot. Built my base right on top of it. No batteries required!

i tend to just run towards the opposite way of whatever my survey scanner is detecting, thats the fastest way to make it jump to something else, repeat and eventually you'll detect a power hotspot :P

Like Mr. Bufferlow, I go out around 300-400U away from a base and do a circle around it on foot, trying to stay 300-500U out. Sooner or later I've always found an electromagnetic hot spot. Sometimes close, sometimes farther out. Up to 1000U away can be usable, but if that's what you find drop a beacon and keep looking. You might find a closer one farther around the circle. If you don't already know how to do it, elsewhere on the group you'll find information on how to push your base boundary out to get close to one if it's outside your 300U base radius. And if you're on a water world, don't be shy about looking underwater.

It's all luck, just keep searching. I was lucky enough to find an A-Class Activated Indium spot and a B-Class E-mag within 500u of each other; I don't even have to wrestle with expanding base area to reach both with a centrally-placed computer.

I found out that in most cases the three possibilities are arranged in a triangle on every planet.

Thanks for the ideas. I will keep looking.

Side note:
Class of hot spot not matter much. Bigger is easier, sure.
Just throw enough machines on it to get what you need.
