No matter what I do, almost the whole ship remains black and dark blue. The ship does hardly change at all when changing all three options (primary, secondary and accent colours).
I have two questions that I hope somebody who knows what's up, is able to answer:
1) Is this working as intended, or are we actually supposed to be able to change the colours of our freighters more than what is demonstrated in these screenshots, but currently some bug is causing this to not work properly??
2) Is there any creative way with save editor or otherwise to change the unchangeable black and dark blue parts of my freighter to something else?
(But without changing the other features of the freighter... I want to keep it S-class with the two bottom cargo pods and the same ship lenght/size.. also I don't want to change the stats!!!)

I have the same problem with this same freighter. I have other saves with different freighters that work fine, so it just seems to be this particular type. I have opened a ticket with HG about it, if you would like to do so as well here is the link.

this is what it looks like in save editor
home seed 0x1FE00F8B02B65
model seed 0x3D022F4C280673E7
I just tried on other save game to repaint another huge dreadnought and it worked fine. That one was white, while this one, which is not possible to paint - is black.
Maybe that has something to do with it? I read old posts from 2018 where players were discussing an old (now solved) issue of freighters changing colours from when first discovering them in distress situation and then after aquiring the freighter and reloading the game, it seems that they used to randomly change colours. What caught my eye there was that someone stated that this never happened to black ships, only to other coloured ships....
And now it seems I am indeed able to replaint my (other save file) white dreadnought, but on this save file I can not repaint the black dreadnought.
So maybe there is an issue with only black ships, now as it was back then (although back then it was reversed and the black ships were the only ones to work as intended (not my own fact, this is something I read in old posts, cannot provide you the source because this thought only occured to me when I was able to repaint the white freighter and then remembered reading that - but I had already closed my web browser).
edit: I've found three other instances of that design and all three are tagged as Atlas Rises, if this was a car it would be locked up in Jay Leno's garage.
edit: It seems this Dreadnaught has been replaced with the small Star Destroyer. My guess is that the ship can't be modified due to something in the game "knowing" that it should not exit. I have found the location of another Dreadnaught of the same design that was generated this year, so I am en route to see if it will spawn for me.
edit (I sincerely despise having to edit posts): Sorry, I think that design may have been removed from the configurations that the game will "naturally" generate. This is as close as I can find: https://i.redd.it/j0v14mymks451.jpg
But I have had the game since Atlas (I think) or definetly since Next... so maybe it is still in my game files somehow and that is then why I can find them...?
I just found it by accident, no tinkering with game files (don’t even know how that would be done)... and I noticed it had two pods so I wanted it as I knew that is rare... but I had no idea it is as you say an obsolete model that should no longer exist...
But interesting to know that if that is the reason for why can not paint it
If you want to investigate however, home and model seed are respectively 0x1180000003008 and 0xF9682F56B7DF913E
Has anyone this problem?
Then you can go in this screen and start painting.
