Hahahahahaha!
You start out with very little storage, but once you max out your suit and have a few ships and a base you will have storage out the wazo.
You can look through your storage containers by clicking on any empty slot and selecting it as the source. That can be handy.
My basic system is:
1. Farm crops
2. Output from farm crops and related items (enriched carbon, superconducter, etc.)
3. Nutrient junk- just in case I ever want to do that.
4. Race artifacts and odds and ends (grav balls, pearls are examples)
5. Gases and Dyhydrogen-no real reason, just do it.
6. Rare metals
7. Green stuff- salt, chlorine, stuff from underwater
8. Sodium and related sodium stuff
9 microprocessors- just one slot
10 free
Most of them are virtually empty, but I know where to look when I need something.
I used to put specific colors on the containers- but really don't need that anymore.
Good points and thanks for the feedback!
Agreed. Space is most definitely not the issue if you just start making $$$$ to buy more of it and/or create storage bins
I also put the numbered decals on them as well, since the freighter colours aren't as obvious. This system works even better with the new update and the expanded cube storage size, there's really zero reason to have more than a single stack of something.

This is no longer maintained so don't download it and try it for the next reader. Hopefully this will be implemented in NomNom in this issue https://github.com/zencq/NomNom/issues/205 soon
