Upgrading ship class with nanites worth it?
Spent the last 3 days on abandoned freighters and u gave 18000 nanites.

Going to need 25000 to upgrade the class, now I have invested a lot of units and storage upgrades I got from salvage on this class B ship.

I'm a little worried it may simply give me a new random gen class A ship and I will lose my tech and storage slots, or something along those lines.

Do you keep your current inventory and tech modules and does it actually change how the ship looks?

You get 'augmentation' items almost everytime you scrap a better ship, and this is free. So much as for the question wether it's worth, no, it's not worth to pay that much instead go and scrap crashed ships you find. If you are close to the maximum credit amount, then pay the scrapper for upgrades to reduce this amount, otherwise it's silly to use.

The ship and current addons stay the same. You may get a better buff for those addons with a higher class ship.

The ship upgrader is mainly a rich player toy. In reality, it is the only activity in the game where you can quickly decrease your credit or nanite balance.

If you really like your current ship and would not trade it, it will be worthwhile to upgrade.

Oh, I just realize that you mean the upgrade instead of augmentation. But same principle apply, if you are not immensely rich in credtis or nanites don't do it.

So the aesthetics of the ship will be exactly the same? I have a fairly basic looking fighter, I can make that into S class and it does not change from a starter looking item?

The number A will change to S, that's basically it, no joke.

yea, its not worth to do that, because later on you will find ship that you like and than you be sorry.

I'm pretty sure increasing the class of ship increases it's value at the scrapper.

For example I bought a class C ship for 350k. Improved weapons, engines, bought a few slots and used the free augmentation storage modules you pick up. Upgraded to class B and it was worth 17 million. Last time I checked.

I nearly have 25k nanites to upgrade to class A. I'll let you know if it increases the value.

BTW You keep everything you purchased when upgrading class.

it is 50 000 nanites from A to S so no money its worth that lost for me it is only worth if you really like that ship and you wont to keep it, .. but even than, cmon 75k nanits.

The value of the ship goes up from total inventory and tech slots mostly.

My simple class B fighter has a scrap value of 8,8 million, I'm geussing upgrading the class will increase the cap on stats and tech slots.

and, if you are like me, a day 1 player who's bored out of your mind; challenge yourself by upgrading the starter ship to max (S-class 48/21) while remaining in your starter system while playing in permadeath (as an added bonus, while doing just this, I had also managed to max out my exosuit, again, while remaining in my starting system)

its worth it if u are in love with that ship. I have 2 ships on 2 different accounts i have upgraded one already and it makes it worth more to me that i took the time to farm the nanites to do this. Especially now that class does matter again. you can no longer upgrade a ships storage to the max if its not an S class. That i prefer haulers i also needed the boost to mobility so yeah worth it for me.

Yes, bought another class C ship. Upgraded to class B and increased it's value by 1 million exactly. It also increased inventory size which can increase the value of the ship if you purchase extra slots.

I upgraded an A Class fighter to S Class once for 50,000 nanites - I still have it - but wouldn't do it again. I bumped into 2 dozen+ S Class fighters & shuttles. explorers etc warping around and visiting stations scrapping ships, and trading outposts. Not worth it - find a wild S Class in high economy systems.

I imagine if you find a ship you really, really like the look of but it isn't S class, it is worth it.

It is not like nanites are hard to get, nor like you have a lot of other use for them once you have most things you need.

This was my starship scrap value before upgrading

Upgraded from B to A

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2199359372

After buying extra storage

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2199359482

Here's the kick. I had no free storage modules so had to pay cash for each slot. The grand total for storage came to around 600 million.

I can make 80 million in half an hour so for me it's worth it. If you have little cash or have just started playing the game. It's not worth it.
