Multiplayer freighter?

I played this game 2 years ago and the biggest letdown was that you couldn't share your freighter with your friends and/or group. What I mean by that is give them access to cargo containers and ship functions etc. Im very disappointed that this is not a game feature still, and it makes this game unplayable in a cooperative sense.

Unless (hopefully) i'm wrong and im missing something? Can someone please tell me I've completely missed something?

so far i know only the owner of the freighter is allowed to use it. friends can still travel with you but they have no controll

Whats the point of your friends traveling with you if they dont have anywhere to store cargo, and cant access anything else about the ship? This would be the same as not being able to share a base on 7 days to die. Completely ridiculous. How can they consider this game multiplayer?

they could use it if the freighter would have something like a base computer but it's still count as a ship. so the functions are bounded to the owner. maybe in the future they patch something in that will allow this. and they call it not multiplayer. it's called online co-op

Last time I checked was a year ago and my friends couldn't even see my freighter. That for me was a huge letdown on its own.

Yea right now its maybe multiplayer, but not co-op. But i've been waiting since 2017 for this. It's been 3 years and I want to play this cooperatively but as of now its just not playable for me.

friends/group can board ur freighter, and use what ever you have inside. they can access their storage if u build the 10 containers in ur freighter. why would u want someone to control ur stuff?

There's a mod that allowed it, but it hasn't been updated in a while and the associated file was updated a while back so it might break things. I've created an updated version for myself and some friends, but haven't had a chance to upload it anywhere. If anybody's interested, I'll sub this thread and post a link when I get it uploaded.

Is it still the case where you can only have one player freighter per system? The friend i'm playing with does not have his freighter yet and at this point we're not really motivated to get to that point just to test this theory.

Yes, you can only have one per system. Sorry, my above post is referring to that limit and about removing it. Just woke up, so reading is not a strong point

My friend was able to land his ship and walk around on my freighter, but that's it. They are not able to access any of the cargo containers I have built or any of the other features like the buy/sell terminal, mission terminal, or any of the npcs i have on my freighter.

And as far as someone 'controlling my stuff' I'm not worried about that with the friends I play with - they are not going to 'steal my stuff'. In a cooperative game everyone is working towards the same goal, contributing to and using all the available resources when necessary.

For me, it would be a very unique experience in a game to be able to use someones freighter as a mobile base of operations for a group of players - that would be worth playing No Mans Sky for.

They have their own freighter, star ships and bases.

As far as accessing things on a base or freighter friends can do that. Always have been able to do that as far as I know. So they can land on your freighter and travel with you, use your refiners, harvest your plants and access your storage. What else do you need?

They can't build on your freighter for a very specific reason. Your freighter is not in THEIR save file. Their freighter is not in YOUR save file. So it would not be possible for what you seem to think is needed for MP. The game is instance base not server based, please stop thinking it's like other games.

The problem with that argument is that your friend's base is also not in your save, but you can edit your friend's base. I believe there's an XML switch that could allow it, but I'm still learning the game's XML properties.

Well, except your wrong. Friends, even group members cannot access any functionality on your freighter. The only thing they can do is land and travel with you. At least that was my experience when playing 'multiplayer' with a friend yesterday. If someone could prove me wrong on this I would be delighted. Maybe we missed something.

Not being able to access any of the functionality on your freighter is made even worse by the fact that, even if they do travel with you to a system, they cannot simply summon their own freighter and do their thing, because there is only one player freighter allowed per system. So maybe NMS could be considered multiplayer, albeit inconvenient multiplayer - but definitely not co-op.
