How long does it take to find a derelict freighter?

Just wondering how long it takes or if theres some pre-requirements to the derelict freighters? ive bought one of the scanners, and have been flying around in the pulse drive for roughly 10-20 minute (boring) intervals, then changing direction and trying again.

Ive found nothing so far, ive tried buying new scanners, a different ship, tried other systems and still had nothing. Is there a pre-quest or something that unlocks the ability to find them?

Did you activate the scanner by selecting it in the inventory and pressing E on it first..? It should then say in the bottom right "searching for frequency, activate your pulse drive" or something like that. It should only take a few seconds in pulse drive then to find one.

yeah ive done all that, have the frequencies wizzing by in the bottom right
doesnt seem to work with the anomaly scanner either. but i deffinitely have them activated.

Step by step instructions
Open inventory use E to activate the unit while you are in your ship flying.
Use Space Bar to activate pulse drive.
After a few seconds you should start hearing a tone. Press "S" to stop. The derelict should appear in front of you.

tried that, and dont get the tones. thats exactly how ive been doing it

You don't see the "ANOMALY FOUND" and a 20 second countdown to stop Pulse Jump to see it?

nah, nothing like that, just have the "locating derelict freighter" message in the bottom right with the searching frequency part constantly changing like its scanning, never had a message pop up or any noise happen.

oh, ive tried on the standard and the experimental version thats out, even bought a new scanner in experimental.

Weird.

Try verifying the game cache. Right click the game in the library list... click properties... then click the Local Files tab, and then click "Verify Integrity of Game Files".

Then load up the game and try again.

If that doesn't work try warping to another system and then try it.

Also.... do you have any mods? That could be a part of it too.

will try that, but nah, no mods, ive edited a couple parts of the save, but i doubt that would have any effect on anything

You must use an Emergency Broadcast Receiver. The anomaly detector since the most recent patches using >75 failed to locate a derelict freighter. Only freighter so far are the broken ones with cargo pods.

EBR is 5 mil once per day and I read here once per week from Anomaly.

yeah i use the ebr, the one you can buy in the stations, but neither ones work, the anomaly detector nor the ebr

just tried verifying and going to another system and still the same outcome, just stuck on searching frequency...

Same problem here - I even bought a 2nd EBR to make sure I had a working one.

i think im on like my 3rd or 4th at this point... i know im wasting cash but they look cool...
