No Man's Sky
no aliens on abandoned freighters?
I've searched those abandoned freighters like 10 times now and I haven't found any aliens. Is there something I have to do to get them or are they just really rare?

Make sure you are going to different systems. Like everything else the layouts are tied to the same proc gen generation, so each system has its own abandoned freighter. Some will only have a couple enemies in the way of defensive turrets, jellyfish and sentries, others will be full of biological cocoons with spew out a half dozen mini biological critters that shoot at you and crawl along the floor/wall/ceilings. The layouts can also be small compact single floor or spawling multifloor affairs.
If you are geared up in high end stuff don't expect any of it to be any sort of challenge, but its a nice change of pace and variety.

Only "aliens" I've seen are those floating jellyfish looking creatures, which are very slow and easy to shoot.

The way the update was described, I was expecting to run into some of those creatures like the ones that spawn after shooting the whispering eggs, but nothing but Floating Jellyfish so far. I've done around 3 or 4 derelict freighters so far.

I did have one that had defense turrets to shoot, and those little floating balls like the one that floats around the bridge of the freighter, I think they were referred to as security drones.

But, that's all I've seen so far.

Been traveling through Elkupalos and found a cool place to put down a base. After it was done, I decided to find another derelict freighter.

BOY was I surprised!

Found one that was loaded to the brim with those "biological cocoons".

I finally have a use for the plasma grenade :)

I've heard some horror stories about using grenades on these wrecks...
If I can ever get a ship packed full of little creatures it'll finally give me a reason to use that flamethrower I found.

So far I've done 4 or 5 of em and it's just been drones, turrets, and the little weird jellyfish thing at the very end.
Yeh, I've still got my original C class 24 slot multi-tool and don't have a flame thrower.
I have learned from past mis-haps to put a significant distance between myself and my target when using the plasma grenade.
My very first derelict was full of the buggers and only gave C Class Modules.
The second system I visited has a freighter with S Class Modules and 960 Nanites for the logs.
You can walk through in ~5 Minutes start to finish without bothering about the drones so no reason for me to ever do another one.

So I did another shortly after that post... turns out the flame thrower doesn't like killing the buggers :P Ended up just shooting them... or trying to... Had a few climb right behind another nest and ended up blowing that open... woops.
I would try some plasma grenades but I see those mystery containers that just spell death by explosion. In such small rooms I just know I would end up blowing myself up.

After the first two rooms I found out I can just sneak around em by not moving when it starts to pulse.

I've yet to find any sort of upgrade for the flame thrower but it works well enough on doors and crap that gets really close.
20 million units later I found one thanks guys
I was hoping for biological horrors, too.

All I saw in my two excursions was floating, harmless blobs, and dumb sentinels.

The scary part was overhyped a bit, I think.

The one with cocoons is ok and appears to be the hardest...still pretty easy unless you limit your protections and tool addons. It would be fairly difficult and you could even die if you had to really pay attention to your health and kill all the little beasties hiding all around and take pot shots from unexpected places.

It is the age old gaming issue where we get overpowered and then complain that there is no challenge to the game. At least with NMS, it is intentionally that way since it focuses on exploring and not on combat.
The Abyss monster (with the eye) scared the crap out of me when I first encountered it.

I wasn't spoiled on it, either. Came as a complete surprise!

The whispering egg monsters kept me scared to this very day. I don't mess with them.
