so I'm on apollo's quest line ghosts in the machine expand and staff your new home and no matter what I do the quest wnt advance

have you build the overseer terminal ?

At your base, build a Construction Terminal and (if don't already have one) a Teleporter. Go to the nearest Space Station. At the station go through the door near the multi-tool upgrade vendor into the little side room and talk to the Gek and higher him. There might be more than one Gek so talk to each until you can hire one of them. Use the station teleporter to go back to your base.

nothing it just tells me to leave the gek to do his work

The expanding the base is just that, expanding your base there is no next step.
Are you sure the mission is selected in the log for Apollo?
