I would actually recommend that you do base building missions -- The Overseer, scientist, armourer, farmer and exocraft guy first before you do Artemis -- here's the reason why -- There are parts of the Artemis missoin which will require you to be strong, agile, well equiped etc. The beginning is easy but as you go thru the missions of Artemis, the First Traveler and The Purge you're going to find yourself in some tight spots. Also, the Purge ends -- sometimes in another Galaxy and having the equipement and power to deal wth and the inventory is helpful.
Your first base to do the base building missions does not need to be a forever base. You can always dismantle it later -- or just leave it there, since you can claim multiple bases all over the galaxy. If you do decide to remove it then you will get back all of the material that went into constructing it (just be sure to have enough suit storage when you tear things down).
Actually, I'd recommend that any initial base be as simple and "just thrown together" as you can stand. The elaborate bases you may see in screen captures won't become possible until you unlock many other base building parts, so don't go nuts trying to be too elaborate.
In the meantime, once you have the Terrain Manipulator grab all of the Buried Technology items that you see. They're an excellent source of units early on before you get serious about bases and are mandatory to feed the Blueprint Analyzer to unlock the additional base building blueprints.
Once you have the antimatter BP and can make warp cells, Start the base building quests. They give you storage containers and other helpful BP's.
Myself I restarted around 20 times before sticking to my current save, everytime I was finding out how to do something more efficiently I was compulsed into restarting untill I reached a point on the game learning curve where I was feeling kinda confortable... doesnt mean I dont feel like starting over from time to time still...
Gambare, once you jump to the next galaxy it feel like a restarting but without loosing all your stuff and progress, just aim for that when you feel like restarting again...
but beware before jumping to the next galaxy because...

That's for the starship you were using when jumping, and same for your exosuit and MT...
(aka do it with a ship without any upgrades in the main inventory and filled with stacks of tech modules)
Inventory is a big plus..so any opportunity to increase your slots is a pretty good bet. But play the game, don't let the game play you. At the core, it is just about exploring and learning what works, what does not..and knowing it is designed with the same attitude you might have had on the school yard as a kid doing recess. Skeptical is not a good attitude in this game. It is amazing, just let that happen naturally.
Enjoy the complications, but if your current desire starts to feel oppressive, just go explore and have fun. It is a sandbox game, just an awesomely huge sandbox to play in.
Also, I wish there was a mode that was more aggressive like Survival/Permadeath, but with the increased inventory space available in Normal/Creative. It’s obnoxiously small in those modes, 250/500 vs 9999, c’mon.
