hmm depends on planets, but I also came across planets who were supposed to hold a specific plants and couldnt find a single one on the surface. It seems to happen more often on planets with lot of oceans.
But there's way to synthetiize local plants like this from the local specific substance in a medium refiner.

The planet I'm on has no oceans, I've also have this happen with me with frost crystals. Been on multiple frozen planets and none

When that happen, just mix the specific substance of the biome (so it's phosphorous here) with oxygen in a medium refiner. It will produce the plant with 2:1 ratio. works for all type of plants.

the solanium is a big plant with yellow glow balls as a flowers the bright like the sodium flowers but bigger

All the plants are now clumped together in very isolated areas... you won't find them just walking around and scanning. Your best bet is to fly low at night since all the special plants glow

Should show up as a leaf on scanner, not "c" but "f"

If you fly at medium distance from the ground you will see it.

uhm you make solanium, hmmm phosphorous and oxygen in a large refiner

ps if that planet you're on has phosphorous it has solanium == Phosphorus is the main indicator of a hot planet

True, he could have that confused with the dry/windy planets that have cactus.

Having a good scanner range will help, since patched of harvestable plants can be far and few between. Holding F to give the scanner overlay will show patches of those kind of plants with a left icon if in range.

If you know what you are looking for (which usually you don't first time playing), you can troll around (original meaning of trolling) in your ship and look for patches. They actually tend to render at a fairly decent distance (assuming running on a decent PC?) and can cover a lot more group that way. With an Explorer ship, it is usually well worth the Launch Fuel costs.

I've had the same problems trying to find Solanium on scorched worlds so you're not alone. I thought they were easier to find before Next came out.? Anyway, I have one other tip that the others didn't mention about looking for Solanium. You can use the "F" key and if it's nearby, it will show up as a icon with a small leaf. Also, if you press "C" to do that type of scan for minerals/mineral deposits, look on the HUD; if you are near the Solanium, small green icons with a leaf will show up. Another thing about Solanium, that is a mineral or chemical name that's found in a plant called, "Solar vine". I find if I land on a planet and scan the area and don't find any, I don't give up on that planet, I just take off and go further away and then land again, and then sometimes I can find some.

Before Next plants were scattered evenly across the planets, it was easy just to walk from one plant to the next. Now it's not that easy.

In most cases, the plant type is a byproduct in other plants or minerals. It can be a pain, but you can gather it that way.

It can be hard to find in pure form on a few planets. Getting the leaf icon when scanning is usually the trick. Have not had much trouble recently, but I am rarely looking for it so maybe only notice when I see it.

Simplest way is just to grow it...but if you don't have any....

I think you can use the refiner to synthesise anything that is not available on any particular planet. Usually though if you scan a planet from space you can read the information of listed resources. If it is listed it should be on the planet somewhere.

Small amounts of plants (50-150) can be bought from the ships landing at most any trading post. Check the for sale inventory of each ship that lands. Many will have 50-150-ish of one of the various plant types for sale. Supply is limited, so once you buy them up the next ships that land will be depleted of that plant for a time.

If you need a lot - then the other suggestions above are the way to go. Scan the planet before you land to be sure it has what you're looking for.
