Do people actually use the Collusus Exocraft?
I was really impressed with the Rover, less impressed by the Nomad, and very disappointed with the Collosus.

Basically the Rover, a small Exocraft, can drive through minerals and trees with abandon. It can zip around at a good speed while ignoring many of the rocks and obstacles of the planet. Of course it lacks the inventory space of the Collosus but;

The Collosus is a joke. It's twice the size of the Rover yet it gets stuck on tiny little rocks. It goes less than half the speed when it's not stuck on a pebble. The boost function even with a couple upgrades doesn't seem to really do much, and the upgrades don't seem to make it any better.

The mining laser is limited in the angles it can mine at, so you need to be a specific distance away from minerals, and god forbid if the Collosus is on a slight curve because then you won't be able to aim the mining laser at anything but the sky.

The only way I can see it being useful is if you carry around the ingredients to create the Geobay so you can basically just summon that behemoth out of thin air which for me personally breaks immersion a bit.

It needs to be able to drive through obstacles far easier, it needs better speed in general and significantly better speed for hills because it gets stuck on even the slightest incline.

It would also be nice if we could just upgrade the Rover to have slightly more inventory space like we can with the Exosuits. I'll stick with the Rover either way for now because it's actually usable but jeez it's just frustrating having the bigger "better" version in game but not wanting to even touch it.

It works as a free Giant storage box for me. So far from Useless, But yes it is a joke to drive lol

I think the collosus is meant as a home away from home, with all the slots it's perfect for long term planet exploration and mining expensive metals on harsh planets.

it would be fitting to give it 1k slots though.

Or give it x2 the amount of slots it has now.

Yeah I dunno, It's just incredibly frustrating to use it. I constantly get stuck on random objects and have to get out of the vehicle and replace it with that summon function which really breaks immersion for me. I probably sound pretty whiny but I was hoping there was some aspect of it I was missing or that there were more upgrades eventually that made it a lot better than it is.

I totally appreciate it as an extra storage box though, lol.

If there was some sort of system where the Rover would automatically interact with the Collosus, that would be neat. Use them in tandem somehow.

When transfering items from your Rover, is there a way to make the items go to your inventory instead of your Ship? If you could transfer items from the Rover to the Collosus that would be interesting.

I have it parked on my harvest planets and use it to gather massive amounts of materials. I like to traverse desert planets in the cumbersome vehicle. I somehow find it fitting. The planets must be free of crevasses or holes. Large sand dunes or similar are best.
When I'm done gathering i call my ship, transfer and fly out. Very enjoayble and relaxing :)

Or x3 but only 250 slots.

Looks awesome indeed!

My base planet has a stupid amount of animal life and a ridiculous amount of trees. So if I ever use the Colossus on the planet my base is on, it looks like a Jawa sandcrawler of death leaving a huge swath of missing trees and dozens of animal corpses in its wake.

Maybe that's my issue, the planet I'm on has a lot of crevices and hills.

Still I feel like, from the size of it and how many wheels it has, it should be able to handle some rougher terrain as well. :(

colossus is usually what i use unless i want to do some deep sea diving, then i'll hover out there and use it as a diving platform. for resource collection runs on land, colossus is my go to baby. just feels so awesome crawling along the landscape. don't particularly like the way the other two feel on land, they are completely unbelievable and destroys the experience for me.

I tried to use it... but its useless as a mining craft. Its just a vault now... and even that I seldom use. The 'hover' thing is also crap. The jeep is just about perfect... still some issues pointing the laser trying to mine... like pointing ahead but the laser is shooting behind you... but its the best of the three by far.

i don't have any problems mining with the colossus. you just can't sit on top of the thing you are mining. the buggy just makes the game feel a saturday morning cartoon to me. just WAY to arcadey. sounds, looks, moves, feels like a cartoon buggy. about the only thing they could have done to make the buggy more cartoonish is to put a face on it and have a human make 'PpPpPpik kaaahhh' sounds with there mouth.

I have only been to one planet that was flat enough to use Colossus.

I ended up having to use a mod to increase movement speed. Now it's not so bad. It moves fast enough to make up for when it gets caught on something.
BaneBlackGuard Aug 21, 2017 @ 1:36pm
unless you are trying to drive into caves with a hole on the top i dont see the problem. Colossus can climb pretty much anything, and the few things it can't all you have to do is boost it a little.

without using boost, Colossus can climb hills that the buggy can't. and if you are going to do the bunny hop everywhere with the buggy or hovercraft you may as well just fly.

I tried the colossus yesterday and it was frustrating on my base planet, which has lots of hilly bumps, holes, and tons of plants and other impediments. It goes sooooooooooo slow I can walk faster, and gets stuck on all kinds of terrain. If you jump out it does a fairly decent job trying to right itself, but OMG that is cumbersom to go anywhere.

I wouldn't mind slow so much if it was actually reasonably possible to mine a resource deposit with it, but I was rarely able to get a proper angle. The mining laser doesn't point down enough so you have to find a deposit on an adjacent hillside or you have to park at a steep angle nearby. So in most of my cases it was impossible to use for mining. Instead you can jump out, mine with multitool, then use the collusus as storage. On the one deposit I could actually mine, it did so very fast but only returned about 60 copper from the whole deposit. I suspect if I had jumped out and used my terraform tool I'd get 150+.

If I can just use hovercraft, mine with multtool into exosuit cargo, return to base, and get more resources at ten times the speed, then there must be some other reason to use Collusus.

I wonder if it will protect you from aggro'd sentinels? I could see that being useful on a bad robot planet. But as a mining vehicle is really is not worth using IMO. At least let the mining tool angle further down somehow (mount the gun higher or something).
