How do I mod a walk button into this game?
I've been asking for it since I've bought the game and simply cannot play without it. Tried using software like UCR and Virtual Joystick to no avail (the movement becomes jerky for some reason). As a last cry, my only choice is to mod the walk button into the game, but I have no idea how.

I have some experience with reverse-engineering Witcher 3 mods to create others, so I'm not a total newbie. Would appreciate help.

EDIT: The game has a three modes of movement - walk, run & sprint. Running is the default, while sprinting is "shift". In order to walk you must nudge the controller's left stick gently. Auto-walk isn't walk. It is a misnomer of auto-run that's been in the game since before the implementation of a third-person camera. Back then you couldn't have distinguished between walking and running, so everything was technically "walk".

Why do I need it? Immersion. No Man's Sky is nothing without immersion. Some people are content with soaking in the world mobile, but I also want the option to soak in everything at my own walking pace. Utility-wise, tight spaces and interiors could benefit from slower movement.
Never thought of it like that before, but it does feel like the game is pushing you to do things as fast as possible. Like you're not supposed to have time to smell the roses... or whatever this flowIT'S EATING MY FACE!

But yeah, a walk ability for everyone would be appreciated.
I don't know HOW to do it. But if the game supports it (it does: you move at the desired rate under some conditions) then there should be a way to splice in that movement rate and activate it on a toggle (also supported, torch, always run, whatever). So you would at a guess copy the code for the K keybind 'always run' or whatever you want to term it and hack in the reduced rate speed as if using the multi-tool or whatever.
It seems like that would be viable. But I don't know the mechanics of accomplishing it.
I can't get your idea of right-clicking to work Emwe. right-click while Viser is on just zooms. The gun or visor never gets put away not sure what you mean. seems to me if you can push "shift" to run, should be easy enough to make something like "alt" key while directional would slow you down to a walk. shouldn't be so hard you'd think for a dev to set that up for geez....id like the RP option too. I can't stroll through anything in this game. Being able to walk is calming soothing even....sometimes n e way =]

I agree with you 100%.
Like Cyberpunk 2077, GTA5, and RDR2, NMS must also 'walk' by default.

DEFINITELY YES.
Certainly you can toggle walk, at a certain point you will be able to get a combat scope that you will have to install in your multitool and with it, by right clicking while in laser weapon mode, you will activate the scope mode, after a few seconds without firing you will be able to walk in third person without problems on PC, greetings my friend, I was just looking for this problem and curiously at this very moment I installed the combat scope and I have answered myself hahah. I hope this helps you :steamhappy:

Funny enough the new staffs prove the 3 walk levels walk, run, sprint because you will walk using the staff in walk but jogging will not use staff and sprint is just sprint

Exactly the mod you want.
Yep, I use this mod, but unfortunately at the moment - I get a crash with a click-to-close window stating incompatible mod. It's the only one I have running, so have to wait until it gets updated again. It will probably be a bit until the author decides the new update has settled in.
And so the saga continues...
So keyboard players will basically never get to use the unique walking animation for the staff... Ok then

This exclusion is so stupid and easily soluble, and I will die on this hill. But hey, maybe now that we have a clear feature in the trailer that relies on walking, enough people will notice it's inaccessible to them and bring attention to the missing walking button.
Reallistically, most people won't care, and most of the playerbase is probably on consoles anyway, where this issue doesn't even exist. But it's your right to die on that hill.
I am giving the benefit of the doubt to the commenters and saying they are not being intentionally obtuse.

W is move forward ie "walk", but the action the character does when you push that button is a fast movement, ie running. The OP wants a mod or a keybinding for normal move forward that equates to actual walking.
It's amazing how such a simple request could be misinterpreted so much, but people seem to be getting it now.

I'm a controller-user so it's not technically an issue for me (the zone for walking is a little finicky for my liking, though...), but I instantly knew what you meant.

This is the kind of detail I'd get real picky about myself if I were in your shoes and used a keyboard for play, but sadly the solutions would be such a tremendous pain it wouldn't be worth it.

My first instinct would have been to look in the Steam controller layout function, but given the name I doubt it actually lets you bind controller functions to keyboards. Still worth a look, it might work both ways, but like Hello Games, I suspect Valve never considered their niche players who want very specific things like, in this case, keyboard mapping controller functions.

Easy enough to do on keyboard just have to add combat scope and it let's you walk around very easy to do while.holding combat scope out of cpmbat
