How do I mod a walk button into this game?
I've been asking for it since I've bought the game and simply cannot play without it. Tried using software like UCR and Virtual Joystick to no avail (the movement becomes jerky for some reason). As a last cry, my only choice is to mod the walk button into the game, but I have no idea how.

I have some experience with reverse-engineering Witcher 3 mods to create others, so I'm not a total newbie. Would appreciate help.

EDIT: The game has a three modes of movement - walk, run & sprint. Running is the default, while sprinting is "shift". In order to walk you must nudge the controller's left stick gently. Auto-walk isn't walk. It is a misnomer of auto-run that's been in the game since before the implementation of a third-person camera. Back then you couldn't have distinguished between walking and running, so everything was technically "walk".

You probably need to be more specific about what you want; you walk by default when you press W, sprint is a toggle, and there's an autowalk toggle already (defaults to K).

I've been getting this exact comment every single time this issue pops up. When I don't mention that auto-walk is not really walk but run, people respond like you did, and when I do mention it, they take my post as abrasive.

No Man's Sky has THREE, not TWO modes of movement - walk, run and sprint. By default, the player runs, Shift is sprint. In order to walk you must have a controller. I don't own one nor do I want to because I dislike playing with one. Therefore I want to mod a toggle-walk into the game.

Hope that clarifies.

When I press W I walk what makes you think W is Run?

You've broken the quotes! xD

Anyways, I looked in the controller config aaaaannndddd... there's no "slow walk"/"sneak"/whatever... option that I noticed. Would love to see a screencap of where you can bind a "walk slowly" action to any kind of button or key.

Ok, I went into 3rd person and yeah, I see how you jog around all the time. Using the visor or the combat scope slows you down and produces an actual walking animation. But, again, I couldn't see anywhere (even in the controller settings) that actually lets you manually bind "walk" to a dedicated button.

Ye in order to walk with a controller you must nudge the left stick gently. Try that.

Dude go 3rd person. It's literally a run. I can upload a gif with the walking animation if you're don't believe me. Go to 3rd person and nudge the left stick. That's a walk.

Use autohotkey.

Oh, a novel proposal! Can I ask you to explain how exactly I may overcome the issue using the software? Because I see I have the site in my history, indicating I have tried it in the past.

Is there a way to simulate a left-stick nudge of a controller using it?

No actually re-reading your OP, autohotkey wont help you, you want the opposite of what AHK usually does. Have you looked into VIGEM instead? Mind you I have never had to emulate xbox or PS4 controllers, so I wont be able to help with the specifics.

Its not possible to do what you want. The Game needs to have this function but since it does not have this, its not possible.
