Experimental Branch 12/06
Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you’ve experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We’re be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man’s Sky from the Steam library page and select “Properties”. Among the available tabs will be the “BETAS” tab. Enter “3xperimental” in the textbox and press “CHECK CODE”, then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch Update 15/06
  • Additional fixes for crashes specific to AMD GPUs.
  • Fixed a rare crash related to broken ships.

Experimental Branch 12/06
  • Fixed a crash that affected AMD GPUs.
  • Fixed a rare networking crash related to base building.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

AMD gpus working well after using this little patch. 5700 here!

I was experiencing the same AMD crash everyone else was up until last night. Now when I select a new game, the game just sits there on the screen with nothing but the cursor. No crash or anything.

Edit: I was able to resolve the above issue by uninstalling the game and deleting the folder. I was then able to create a new save file after reinstalling.

New Issue: Error leading to crash while playing
Token: 60841_0x46A8A_76561198037801513
CPU: 3700X
GPU: 5700XT

Doesn't work, reported with crash dump. Started a new game and it crashed after few seconds after I gain control with default settings and with low settings ("replace High to Low in graphics settings file")

You broke cross-play for PC to Xbox and PS4 because all the updates are out of sync due to being different versions.

still crashing for me. 5700 here :(

Yeah, I got caught by this when switching from VR to Desktop at the time of the update, like real kick in the balls huh, but this just means they need to learn to release updates in sync on each platform right?

Hello, thank you for your patch. I have AMD Radeon RX 580 Series and it's not working for me - it crashes after loading, right around the moment when I start a new game online and have to press 'e' to start. If I hold in 'e' it would load about halfway, then the game crashes. I can't load old saves, either (unless they are in offline mode?) and I don't use any mods

-- I have changed the graphics to low in the settings file, also verified the game files, still crashes after long loading screen

This patch works if you follow the notes and then do a verify of game files through the properties tab after ( for first time players?)

That's what I did. Verify after. Working so far.
I verified the files after the download, but it keeps hanging on the galaxy loading screen. I have a RX 480 8GB and Ryzen 5 1600.

Even that, if this patch worked, how could I play with my friends using the crossplay, if I'm on a different version of the game? Maybe you should tested everything on the amd hardware too, it's not fair that a high percent of your game base can't just start the game.

Does this beta branch do anything for the wrong surface texture being created from mining?
Or, am I the only person with that issue?

For clarity of what I'm asking about:

This version works ok on my AMD system.
No problems at all now, but just checked some planets yet, so we'll see ..
Made a complete new installation of the game, with verification.

my specs. cpu ryzen 5, gpu radeon rx5700, driver 20.4.2

This fix worked for me as well. Amd system.

With about 13 minutes of gameplay (On multiple planets boosting over the planet surface and then quickly landing) the patch seems to have worked.

Ryzen 3900X
32GB RAM
AMD 5700 XT - Driver 20.4.2
Win 10, build 1903
