Blender has a part count too, if you use that.
If you use GoatFungus NMS Save editor you'll see the number under each base of the Tab marqued "Base Storage".. Btw : (in PC Normal mode) :
1 :where did you find the ceiling of 3000 items ? According to the wiki (https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Base_Complexity_Item_Values), the limit appears to be linked to a complexity value assigned to a given part ?
2 : My most complex base (Hari's Eden Base Euclid) is 1198 items.
3000 parts is the maximum amount of items a base is allowed for it to be uploaded. You can have more parts if you wish, but it will no longer be possible to upload. There is a global maximum part count of 20000 items per save, which includes all the bases you have made.
This is the reason I don't play the game anymore... 20,000 items is too low and easy to hit that cap... then you are unable to build anything in any Galaxy or planet without deleting something else. I've hit the 20,000 cap and it took all the fun out.
I use cuboids to minimize wiring and wire counts.
That being said, there are two ways to circumvent this galaxy-travel limitation in a limited way.
(1) in multiplayer mode, you can team up with someone who does have a base in a galaxy you want to visit, and they can transport you there if you are in their group.
(2) At the end of the starter Artemis-Apollo questline, you get a choice of the first 3 or 4 galaxies when you short-cut to the center. But that's only a random choice among the first 3 or 4 galaxies.
