Experimental Branch 05/06
Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you’ve experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We’re be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man’s Sky from the Steam library page and select “Properties”. Among the available tabs will be the “BETAS” tab. Enter “3xperimental” in the textbox and press “CHECK CODE”, then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch Update 05/06
  • Replaced networking back end.
  • Upgraded to OpenVR 1.10.30.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

Hello. Why nexus is not working correctly? None of the players can connect to each other.

Nexus Missions UI placement needs fixing currently window element inside The Nexus Cube.

Like some others here, this version crashed directly for me, the computer completely locked down, so I had to press the reset button.

window 10, v1909.
amd ryzen 5.
amd radeon rx5700, driver 20.4.2.

A new start without mods, it crashes again immediately, but did not lock the entire computer this time, could shut it down through windows.
i leave experimental and go back to the normal version, it works without problems, after downloading 2gig ..

VR here

Seems like the distance of stuff was fixed. It's not right in your face. Looks like the player position moved a little but backwards.

Nexus Mission is bugged to, it's far away in the nexus itself.

Not sure but the gfx looks better somehow. Dunno why, subjective maybe.

Nexus was pretty empty, some other players but not crowded. Maybe update related.

Other than that, no crash so far.

Have they added gamepad support for vr yet? I have been holding out on the vr version because it would be much more comfortable with my xbox controller than using the oculus touch

constant crash for me, which is stupid considering they didn't expect any issues with this patch.

Oculus touch controls are not bad. Much better than mouse control for flying. Just have to get used to them. Best to be seated in a chair with arms.

For you guys/gals crashing is multiplayer disabled?

I have 2 PC's runing NMS one works fine the orther CTD or Locks up. The one that locks up etc is Randon 5700 xt. The good one is Nvidia GTX 660 Ti.
Might it be a display card conflict again ?

Both worked fine before the Exp Patch

Just to add i unloaded the exp patch on the 5700 xt machine and it works fine. Never had any problems with the Nvidia one.

Anyone else having issues with FOV? Seems mine is like a value of 30. Tried removing all graphics settings, using nvidia 2070 super.

LOL! Nothing's changed then?

Started a new game on experimental branch and all seems good, played for a few hours. RTX 2070. Frame rate dips a few times but usually 120+ and mostly 144.
