Switch to creative mode?
I've only been playing for a couple weeks and was wondering if it is possible to switch from normal to creative mode then back again in an active game without losing all my progress. The grind is part of the experience, but I'd like to build a kick ass home base right away. I don't want to try it and end up losing all my progress.

Not through the game. It can be done with save editor in the json, but I haven't done that, so wouldn't be able to tell you how.

There is no in game option to swap modes for a save.

It can be done, but the results are unpredictable so I wouldn't recommend it. I have done it before and got bit on the back side for it. :steamsad:
What you could do is approach your problem differently and instead of trying to convert the entire mode to another, it may be possible to use a Mod to build a base in Creative Mode, then export only the base objects, using the mod and import them to the Normal Mode.

I think you can do that using the NMSsaveditor because I think you can back up your bases with it, separately from back ups of the entire game saves. If modding your base goes wrong then you should be able to restore just your base. I am assuming that you could possibly choose to restore your base to a different game mode, which would be a solution for you.

A lot of modders use the saveeditor mod to help build extraordinary bases. But most of the building is still done in game (because it is fun and works very well) but even other mods like Blender3D can be used build works of art outside of the game and export designs into the game, though I have never experimented with this. Anyone proficient using Blender3d should be able to help on that one!

If you do anything with mods make back up saves of your files to be sure not to lose or corrupt your game. Bases can be quite complex with lots of parts so potentially a lot could go wrong. Heavily modded bases might also not show in player games not using similar mods. Some mods work better than others and also need to be kept up to date.

Thanks to everyone for responding so quickly. I think I've got it now.
