How to change from 144hz to 120?
I run desktop @120hz and in most games you can change in game to match. In this game I cannot and the game starts in 144hz.

How can I force 120hz please?

I have a 1080ti and in Nvidia driver there is an option for highest or app can change it. But there is no option in game to. The default of highest would be the highest for the selected which is 120hz.

EDIT 1: Sent a ticket to Hello games.

EDIT 2: I sorted it. Download a program called CRU. Top right corner of the window, find your res then remove the 144hz of your res and leave the one you want. So in my case I want to remove 144 and keep 120. Now all games are forced to 120hz.

IMy need for this was my VA panel can't quiet get all black to black transitions up to 144hz but can at 120hz. Other people may need this help for other reasons. So hope it helps!

I´m not sure if that does help :

setup in game your Monitor resolution to the value which fits for 120hz (in my case its 1080)
Than disable Vsync and quit the game.
Next launch Nvidia Profile Inspector (can be downloaded for free) and do the following settings for NMS :

Frame Rate Limiter : to the value for 120hz
Triple Buffer : On
Vertical Sync : Forced on

And maybe switch of G_sync (I have all on default , but also have only a 60Hz Monitor)
I had the same problem, I solved it by putting window without border
if 60hz is 60fps, than 120hz is 120fps...

Yes I would go with this and set a framerate cap of 120 in the game (I don't know if it goes that high, I guess yes.) Otherwise use a tool like MSIAfterburner or NVidia Inspector to set extensive game settings that you won't find in the NVidia Panel.

I would not use any afterburner.. they may give other problems

BS, I use it with a lot of games, and it's designed to solve problems as opposed to not using it and have invisible problems with the game. I have used it with NMS to monitor performance and tweak my settings down according to its statistics, after that I don't have to use it again. It's however important to use the 64-bit version if this is your system.

There's software for which just having MSI Afterburner running is enough to make them stop working. It's stupid, but that's the way of it.

Source: I used to use it with a lot of games and it gave me problems. I also read about people having problems with it quite often.

Go an play Metro Exodus with an afterburner... :) gives you a lot crashes... stuttering ...FPS drops :)

Thanks for the help guys. Going borderless does work to get 120hz, but there is a performance penalty and freesync stops working.

Will just keep using 144hz I guess.

It's in game menu under (Video Options). (Max FPS). You have to use the arrows on the sides to increase/decrease the numbers, one number at a time.

New (this year) nvidia drivers have frame limiter built in, all you have to do is add nms or other game in program settings (next to global settings) and set fps limit there, it will remember the app and you don't have to launch it everytime like afterburner or other fps limiters. You also should have fps limiter option in game, if you don't maybe you're on old drivers?
