Have you tried save-reload?
I have no other ships...
Yeah i tried backing out to the menu, came back, still needed gold on a 'critical failure'
I backed out of the whole game, came back, still. same.
I suggest contacting the zendesk and file a bug report then download the save editor and use that to fix it.
Your in game options are
Find terminal or trader that sells gold
Find crashed ship
Find a rock that had gold as a secondary resource
Scrap a tech that gives you gold
Build a medical refiner and make gold.
Don't click on the launch thruster. Instead, grab a jelly and drop it directly on the broken module.
If that works you can do the same with some ferrite dust.
I've seen this before, too, but I already had all that stuff with me so was able to bypass the glitch. If you fired at asteroids to any extent ever, you would have gold in your inventory. It's weird, but occasionally the requirements for building a blueprint item get scrambled, saying one thing then asking for another. You could disassemble another mod that requires gold...that will drop the gold in your inventory. Metal fingers are common on all planet types also, but you may have to wander around massively first looking for them.
if they don't sell gold, you can at least buy a crappy little ship, go to space, harvest some gold and come back. later scap this ship.
in every case, put a save beacon near your damaged ship to find it again when it loses the "active ship" icon.
The beacon is the best idea, but even if they forget, if you buy a new ship, they old ship is saved and will be placed, broken, on your freighter when you get one. This goes for crashed ships too. If you don't fix it when you claim it, it will automatically migrate to your freighter. I guess there must be an intergalactic towing company out there.
read what the OP said.
