Ya, I know that sucks.
you should get an older gforce for under 100,-
onboard grafix just isn't worth the hussle.
Unfortunately the Intel 4400 OR 5000 series weren't supported when NMS was new in 2016. Anyways with Vulkan being required in August 2019 it definitely won't run.
Maybe old archived version of vanilla NMS might run if you can actually find the right versions of NMS and old version of the graphics drivers???

A quick glance at several old topics about this, and seems like very few actually got it to work.
Even a first gen CPU with a newer GPU works just fine.
technically, 'running with Vulkan' means 'running with openGL'
2) 'newer' GForge cards ( I consider the 1070 not old ) support Vulkan automatically (driversides), like older did with openGL
3) an "Intel HD 4400" is an onboard grafix, means, it's integrated in the CPU, this PC has no dedicated grafix card. such machines are suitable for Mahjjong and Candy Crush, not for games with a halfways modern 3D environment, and for sure not for NMS.
even if you would get Vulkan running on that rig, it will mercyless croak in the try running NMS.
buy a grafic card.
Yep, exactly my point. Onboard graphics is not a gaming PC.
OP mentionned that the gaming pC is his brother's, who leaving for college and likely taking the PC with him. We're talking about 2 different machines here. Also, chances are, if OP only has integrated graphics, he's playing on a laptop and can't upgrade to a real GPU...
*edit*
actually sounds like you might not be able to run NMS (any version) on your computer. might be worth a shot combining old NMS version with other potato performance options.
Here is how to use Steam to download prior versions of games:

Tried this, but the console says the manifest was unaccessible (or something like that, not sure of the exact wording). Tried a workaround by using the process in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44HBxzC_RTg&feature=youtu.be
Still no luck, says I need a vulkan driver on launch, any other ideas?
What OS and Graphics card you got? I have Win 7 and on board graphics card as well but mine keeps crashing on launch.
But the initial question is the wrong one, because Intel cards do not support the game (2 or 3 do but I dismiss those), you need a DEDICATED Grafic card with 2+ GB VRAM, one that supports Vulkan with its latest drivers.
The laptop uses Win 10 and the MX150 graphics chip which is a mobile nVidia chip, but it is about half as capable as a 1050. In order to run NMS on this laptop, I have to keep it plugged in as the power drain is too great for the battery to keep up, causing the game to repeatedly crash in a battery loading only situation. Even if an external battery is added, it's not enough to keep NMS from minimizing when the load exceeds its capabilities....at least it just minimizes the game rather than crashing it.
When it's plugged in though, I can get a passably usable game, but the settings are kept at a low to mediocre level.
