Can you change the default weapon on a ship?

If I want my ship to default to Phase Beam rather than Photon Cannon, but keep both weapons installed, is there any way to do that?

To be clear, I'm not asking what key to hit to change weapons. Simply which weapon is selected when I enter the ship, AKA the default weapon.

Not sure if this would work but the only way i could even think of is to remove all of your weapons and reinstall the type that you like as default first? maybe before you install the new ones fly into space/land/save. then install your default weapon.

I don't know if this works, but something to try: change the order that the tech is installed. Put the photon cannon in slots both before and after last phase beams and see if it makes a difference. Don't know if it works, but worth a try.

btw, you might give the positron ejector too. I used to favor 100% phase beam, but on this playthrough have relied on the positron and enjoy it more than beams now.

I have tried all of the above as well as a few others. But it seems than the Ion cannon if installed will always be the default ship weapon. The only way I have found is to get in the habit of setting your ship weapon (using G key) to your desired weapon every time you hop in the cockpit. Sorry.

Edit: However, you can install the weapon of your choice and no others.

I don't think there is a default. Every time I get in my ship the weapon is whatever I left it set to when I got out.

Mine resets to Ion cannon even after I have been using the splitter.

Would be nice if it stays on whatever one you left it on, but for me, it definitely goes back to the default photon cannon every time.

I'm not entirely sure if you can. Maybe using a save editor might work?

Like deleting the photon cannon, then loading the save, making a new save, then add it back in the editor?

Or maybe that won't work. Honestly I have no idea. Very good question though. Never thought of it

I take back what I said. That only happens while in game, once I leave the game and come back it has gone back to the cannon.
