Pretty good write-up on the "state of the game" [before] vs [after]... game is still unique, beautiful and fun [to a point] and does some things right and others wrong ... and most gamers had come to the conclusion early on, that had the game been priced at $24.99 [at launch] and (at least for PC) been labeled "early access", things might have turned out different.

(does Sony do "Early Access"... ? ... just say'in)

If you check out certain mods at nomansskymods and the NMS nexus site, you will see that [almost] all the "capabilities" and "assets" from most of the vids are still present. Like the massive proc-gen ruins and wrecked ships are in a mod called "Perfectly Procedural Prop Buildings and Crashed Freighters"... "Full" flight controls can be had in "Spaceflight Overhaul 2.4"... "BigThings 2.4" and "Bigger Creatures" and "Better Planets", "Busier Space", "Giant Space Battles", etc., make the game look more like older NMS builds. THere are even mods to make "ground snakes" and "giant flying eels" (space whales, lol).

Even though the final build is NOT the game described in what i am assuming were "alpha and beta builds", i still like the feeling the game gives of finding an endless variety of planet terrains (with no loading screens), colors, textures and combinations of assets (all-be-it, finite "art"] of animals, plants, weapons, ships, etc., etc,...

... but... having watched many demo and interviews over the past few years... i can say the reddit OP has pretty much identified "quotes" of what Sean.et.el. had originally intended for the game [verses] what we finally got.

Like i said, I think it's already been hashed-out to a resolve soon after launch... had Hello Games NEVER got involved with Sony, charged $24.99 (and 30% off for Black Friday) and told everyone it is "early access" (like many, many other game Dev's have been doing for over the last 5yrs+), they would have been met with far greater acceptance for what it is they created... a never before seen "realtime" proc-gen Universe Game Engine + Game...

... Had they done that, it would have been simple to have added, "we intend to add much, much more content and improvements over time" (and again) this, the same play-book as many other "early access" publishers enjoy.

Why they changed the game from what many had envisioned by the demo's and words they injected into adverts and media in the past is left up to much speculation.

On a personal note... If i "close my eyes" to the price, if i "close my eyes" to what has been said and shown [before] ... the game has a beautiful art style formed from [as promised] what looks like cover and comic-book art from old sci-fi's of the 50's and 60's... add in some interesting lore and story telling of various factions and a malevolent intergalactic entity, it is pretty fun for "exactly what it is" (presently)... all-be-it short on traditional content... but...

... after you use up ALL the "so called content", there is still a game of discovery that shouldn't be any less fun for anyone that enjoys games like finding "Poke'mon" or some sand-box_exploring games (i suppose) ... no depth... just a chill space-ride and planet-safari (with some low difficulty hazards and Ai battles) a virtually endless Universe that will be fun to cruise around in every once in a while... i STILL chuckle when i see flying Cows and Hippopotami flapping around with tiny butterfly wings.

so he deleted the reddit. then it eventually got re opened, and thus all threads sources of PROOF got reinstated.
