Is Upgrading a Starship class worth it?
I have a C class Horizon Omega Ship ( the Pre-Order starship) and I see that it requires me to spend 10k Nanite Clusters to upgrade it's class...I was wondering is it worth upgrading it up to S class? or it's gonna be a waste of Nanites and it's better to leave it as it is and hunt for a good S class ship?

honestly as long as you have all your modules maxed out, upgrading the ship to S-class provides minimal payoff since you'll be a beast against any NPC ships you encounter.

if you're a covetous magpie like myself on the other hand you'll be going after ALL the shiny shinies in the game so really it's mostly a personal choice.

Upgrading your starship class allows for more inventory and tech slots on some (if not most) ship categories. It's worth it, IMO, if you're like me and have a bad tendency to hoard a bunch of things.

There's a YT video that makes an interesting case for upgrading specific explorers to S-class due to the way stats scale (specifically for jump range).

In your specific case, it may be worth save and revert to see how the stats scale.

It'd be a long term goal, but if you particularly like the ship design, maybe it's a good long term goal to have.

A fully upgraded C class ship can handle anything in the game. You will discover that credits just keep flowing in...so offloading them on upgrades is a way to keep your balance tidy. (and it is fun.)

The main reason they created the ship upgrade tool was for us old fogies who had maxed out our credits (appx. 4 billion) and needed a way to get back to a more realistic balance.
I did it with 2 A class fighters, worth it in both cases as I got way better damage stats than any S class that I bought

I have a C class hauler with 42/7 inventory/tech. I cannot (currently) add any more slots to it. I upgraded it to B class, then A class and it did not unlock any of the grayed out slots. So if I take it all the way to S class, will it unlock the rest of the slots so I can max the inventory? Don't want to waste my time and nanites if it wont.

There is nothing a S-Class can do which a C-Class cannot do, so there is no much point in going higher.
The only S-Class ship I aim for is an exotic one for better warping distance, all other stuff is only eyecandy. And about eyecandy: I personally find some basic C-Class fighters the best looking ships in the game, but that's subjective of course...

The very costly ship upgrade at the scrapper is made for the player to get rid of his large amounts of credits, the game has a 4+ billion limit, so the player can reduce his credits without using some popular external tools. There is nothing else to spend credits for anyway, except to get a S-Class freighter which also doesn't make a difference.
