Database for planets
Does anyone knows a good program to input data for planets, I tried excel but it is painful to update everytime you find a new planet. I am trying to create a simple database list in alphabetical order of what the name of the planets are, what they sale, what they buy, how many planets per system and the resources in each planet, just trying to find an easy way to input data to create trade routes, mining expeditions etc.

Does anyone recommend a program to do this task?
There is also the Hello Games official No Mans Sky Galactic Atlas.

https://galacticatlas.nomanssky.com/

There is a link on that site to the NEW atlas accepting your discovery data for NEXT planets.

Lastly is the Portal Repository an unofficial database with some useful links..

I am "documenting" systems I have visited. ... Star class, dominant lifeform, signal scanner code, planet name, description, weather, hazard type, number of fauna found/total, flora amount, and resources. I do use an Excel workbook to record the data and do an alpha sort by system name, and (secondary) planet name. I have started keeping it open and use Alt+Tab to/from it and NMS to record data. I think I'd use that more than a database and I find it easier to update after a session than using a database input screen.

I started the workbook because I kept forgetting where I'd found things. I also could not recall what screenshots went with what system or planet. Arrgh. So I also now have a standard screenshot sequence as I enter a new system and visit a new planet. It helps me a lot. But it depends on what you want it for.

My screenshot minimum documentation: shot of initial system arrival screen, Galactic Map view, planet scans from space, initial display on planet landing, HUD display when placing a signal scanner (so it has both the planet name and the galactic coordinates), screenshot of Discoveries Fauna, to show max fauna, etc. (An exosuit HUD screenshot also shows a weather description that sometimes differs from the Discoveries data. I report such discrepancies).

You may want to look at Atlas Hub[atlashub.space], an online database. Join to add data and upload screenshots. It may not contain all data you want, but it's an attractive and excellent effort by a player/fan.

That sounds awesome, I am trying to use Excel to create a database of who sells what and buys what so to make my trade routes profitable.
Not sure if you have done this yet but an Economy scanner fitted on a starship will guide you to the most lucrative exchanges. I think once you make a visit there is a faint line drawn connecting systems shown on the Galactic Map. If you buy or sell in bulk the Trade prices will dramatically change.

MS Access.

No joke. You need to know how to use it though.

There's an excellent spreadsheet up on GoogleDocs from a fellow over on Reddit that might be useful for what you're seeking. It's a pretty comprehensive Trade Route Tool; I've been using it a bit, although it's not quite what I was looking for myself.

I'm less interested in setting up trade routes (that seems kinda tedious for my kind of gameplay) than in recording what systems have, what planets are there, and what resources can be obtained on those planets, but my own skill at working with spreadsheets and databases is pretty much nil. If you come up with something that works well at recording *this* kind of data, do please post a link or something, as I'd be interested in seeing something for that.

That's what I use. Just for basic information though. For each system & planet I visit I record System name, Class, Race, Number of Planets/Moons, Planet Name, Weather, Sentinels, Base name (if applicable), Resources and any special bonuses such as Salvage Containers, Storm Crystals etc.

This means that if I have a need for a required resource I can quickly ascertain which planet has that resource with the least weather or sentinel interference, and the name of my base there.

It's a shame that the developers can't see past their "simple" exploration design....

Our capital ship should contain a really cool interface for stuff like this. At the very least - SOMETHING.

With a game that is HEAVILY focused on exploration, nothing built into the game to aid us in a GALACTIC Sunday afternoon drive.

Not sure if the developers browse these forums or not, but here's a request.
(I'm going to add this to suggestions forum as well)

• Inside the freighter (at least in the capital version, if not all), change the holographic display that shows the spinning orange planet (or it that a sun?), when you warp into a solar system, it displays a holographic image of the entire solar system you're in.
Additionally, the ability (with a ship upgrade, of course! :)) to scan the solar system and display (and log) planet information on a screen inside your capital vessel.

• Give us the ability to log a solar system in the galactic map, where systems we want to make a log of, have an icon in the galactic map (on the star, if we want), when selecting the star, it shows a side panel with the information
- Star name (or our own nickname we give the system)
.... planet1, info...etc.
.... planet2, info....etc.

You get that devs, right???

--------
Players having to do this manually using spreadsheets or access (or whatever), is lame lame lame.

.........
I like to "play" a video game like this. Explore...etc.
Having to flip out of the game to log information, kind of ruins the immersion of it.

Thanks for reading.
And thanks for the thread. Hits home with me.
No, I don't do anything outside of the game like you all are discussing. It just annoys me simple interfaces are not present like this in the game.

:)

I used to use NMSTracker, and this thread reminded me to check, but it appears the domain was lost. I have a massive *.ppt I used when NMS first launched to catalog bodies, but those worlds have long since updated and either no longer exist or have changed drastically.

I really wish HG would host or license a proper database for all to explore, instead of this locally stored silliness that defaults whenever you travel far enough away. I get that it costs money to maintain, but if would be nice to not only catalog our finds, but access other player's discoveries as well.
