I've been cruising the cosmos and just found what I think is the ultimate multi-tool, an Experimental A-24 with great bonuses. Has anyone out there found an Alien A-24, and is it better than the experimental? (I traded an Alien A-17 to get it.)
Anyway hope leaving game doesn't reroll things because i found an outpost with a 24 slot multi but at that time though i need to pay.
Hope it will still be there when i return
I know some people say that the multi-tools offered in space stations re-roll, but that has not been my experience. I have re-visited some space stations and I'm almost certain the offering was the same. I had to jump to ~400 systems to get that last one. Worth it!
To "re-roll" the multi-tool offered to you in space stations, try this:
1. Land on a planet.
2. Save.
3. Re-load Save.
4. Return to the space station.
For the longest time I thought they don't change but apparently the above does it.
Also, the RNG gods must have been smiling on me because the Weapons Terminal guy I hired offered this to me on his very first try:

Most of the slots were broken but my jaw dropped when I realized what I was looking at.
A lot (too much IMHO) depends on the specs of the tech added to the tool. Since you don't know how good the specs are until you've spent the nanites to buy it (or spend the time to save, buy, install, check, decide to try again, exit, reload, repeat forever) it's somewhat of a gamble.
For one data point, after trading in an A-24 for an S-24 and equipping it similarly, the bonus value of scanning plants and animals was worse by a few percent with the S-class. Yes, could have run through the save/buy/test loop a few times and then tried to do the same to optimize the weapons, etc. Too much of a PITA; good enough is good enough sometimes.
