Multi-Tool buy question
So i learned you can either buy a multi-tool at the space stations or get damaged ones for free offered from alien.
But i would like to know what happens if i decide to buy at a space station when my multi-tool is worth more then the one i buy. Do i get the difference in value paid or do i still pay full price and just lose the old one?

So guess outpost is better then space stations and you can't use the free tools from outpost for some early income

You probably know, but I'll say it anyways: when you are sure you're going to exchange multi-tools, remember to uninstall all of your tech to recover good stuff. You must have free space in your exosuit, or the stuff will be lost.

I've been cruising the cosmos and just found what I think is the ultimate multi-tool, an Experimental A-24 with great bonuses. Has anyone out there found an Alien A-24, and is it better than the experimental? (I traded an Alien A-17 to get it.)

Already read that but thanks, think i only get part of the stuff back?
Anyway hope leaving game doesn't reroll things because i found an outpost with a 24 slot multi but at that time though i need to pay.
Hope it will still be there when i return

You're right, you only get part of the stuff. But considering how expensive those tech modules can be to buy early game, I'm glad we get something.

I know some people say that the multi-tools offered in space stations re-roll, but that has not been my experience. I have re-visited some space stations and I'm almost certain the offering was the same. I had to jump to ~400 systems to get that last one. Worth it!

Wait until you get your ranking high with Polo and you can get a better tool

To "re-roll" the multi-tool offered to you in space stations, try this:
1. Land on a planet.
2. Save.
3. Re-load Save.
4. Return to the space station.

For the longest time I thought they don't change but apparently the above does it.

Also, the RNG gods must have been smiling on me because the Weapons Terminal guy I hired offered this to me on his very first try:

Most of the slots were broken but my jaw dropped when I realized what I was looking at. :steamhappy:

There are also multi-tools available on the Space Anomaly. After you exit your ship and walk trough the door up toward Polo and Nada there is a cylinder on the right. When you get close it will open and show a multi-tool.

FWIW, the stats between a high slot S and a similar A multitool seem to overlap -- or at least can be close enough to each other that trading in an A for a similar slotted S may not be worth it.

A lot (too much IMHO) depends on the specs of the tech added to the tool. Since you don't know how good the specs are until you've spent the nanites to buy it (or spend the time to save, buy, install, check, decide to try again, exit, reload, repeat forever) it's somewhat of a gamble.

For one data point, after trading in an A-24 for an S-24 and equipping it similarly, the bonus value of scanning plants and animals was worse by a few percent with the S-class. Yes, could have run through the save/buy/test loop a few times and then tried to do the same to optimize the weapons, etc. Too much of a PITA; good enough is good enough sometimes.

Thanks for the info, I'll try it tonight. That S-class rifle is an outstanding bolt from the blue. I played most of my game with an A-24 with similar stats (+14%-0%-+14%). I found loads of A-24s that did not match up stat-wise. I got that multi-tool by answering a question correctly at a shrine (I think).
