And space cats, little cats with space helmets from the 50s.
The gameplay after the NEXT update was nice, and gave me a solid 100 hours of game time, with fiddling around with things, checking out the smaller content patches, and the Community Events making it last 100 to 200 more hours longer.
I'm just waiting for The Beyond update to hit so I can start exploring what it has to offer.
Obviously if the game doesn't work for you in the first hour, stop playing and look up what others have said has been a technical issue with running it. That way you stay within the refund window Steam offers. There are some known issues with AMD graphics cards.

I don't think the windows allow you to view yourself inside your own ship, even in Picture Mode.
Either Beta edition of a good AAA game, or Full release of an indie game. It's certainly miles ahead of indie beta games, but is lacking that personal touch of good AAA games.
There are a raft of average AAA games that it beats though.
As for the historic negative reviews holding back its rating, that's still fair. Overall rating means just that, although at the rate the game is going 3-5 more updates and it'll be pushing positive overall. Even when it had a negative rating, it was only just below 50% approval. It only took one update to sway it into mixed.
From what I understand, NMS was effectively made by a bunch of relative newbies to the genre, and it shows, and shows all over the place. No AAA title is made by a team lacking in that much experience. HG maybe getting better, but they still have a long way to go. That said, for a bunch of newbies, they made one outstanding world generation system!
