How to backtrack?
After punching some random glyphs into a portal, I appeared in an interesting system. I explored - a lot. I jumped to another system (or maybe two) and even built a base on a lovely moon. I set up a teleporter in my moon base, activated it, and was told TELEPORTER UNAVAILABLE//PORTAL INTERFERENCE. According to a lot of partially helpful Google results, I apparently have to find the portal Iast exited and use it to go back to where I entered it. I was even directed by the game to use the galactic map.

So, how do I use the galactic map to back track through the systems I visited? There doesn't seem to be an option that shows your path travelled. Nor is there a search for the systems by name so I can just try finding all the systems listed in my Discoveries (not that they seem to be in any chronological order).

And if I did manage to find the right system, how do I find the right planet, or monolith? I just spent hours trying to work around this. I did manage to find one of the systems from my Discoveries on the map marked Destination. Didn't make a lot of sense, but what the heck? I went there. Its an awful system where every planet has non-stop blinding double-storms. I went to the planet that seemed most likely and searched for monoliths. Tricky business with zero visibility in persistent fire/radioactive storms. Found a lot of language, but no portals. Except for that annoying icon hanging in outer space.

Tried another possible planet (the ice/radioactivity storm planet) and eventually found one. It, of course, wont activate. Why would it? There's a perfectly fine portal hanging up there in space, right?

Anyway, I'm a bit cross now. I resent the fact that I cant go back more than one Save. I thought for a second "Hey, I can go back to the last manual save!" But no, that was from when I finished my moon base. The one that wont let me teleport because of PORTAL INTERFERENCE.

All of this would not be a problem if I knew I needed to keep track of my adventures on a piece of paper next to the keyboard - like a map of the places I'd been - instead of assuming that beautiful map in the game had that capability. I'll have to get a note pad and have it handy when I start over from scratch again.

Maybe its karma for feeling so happy when I actually found and bought my Exotic ship - which gave me the idea to start warping around all over. Or, more likely, its punishment for having put in more than 100 hours since NEXT dropped. At any rate, its clearly time for a break. Maybe Ill just wait until this bug gets fixed.

TL;DR : is there any way to figure out where you were when you activated a portal and randomly jumped to a system, and then warped randomly to another system without noting any of the system names? Am I stuck with PORTAL INTERFERENCE permanently? Did everyone else already know we were supposed to be writing down all of this? That seems a bit counter-immersive. You'd think our in-game character would keep better records.

The game on purposfully makes it hard for you to find anything you have previously visited, with the exception of your bases and beacons placed all old content will go away. It is possible if you remember the exact name of the star system and it is nearby where you are now. You will have to look at every nearby stars name and then warp back. But if you move a few system away it is basicly gone for ever.

your discovery list is in fact in order, and you can set waypoints to backtrack all the way to the beginning if you see fit.

Edit: and NoMansConnect can read your savefile and show you on the galactic map where every star system you've been to is located... it shouldn't be hard to backstep and find the two locations that are farther appart than the others.

Edit2: and unless I am mistaken, you can also use it to teleport to any star system you've been in.

The galaxy map shows lines joining the stars that you've visited and the warp paths you took to get there. It also shows icons and text indicating where missions and bases are.
