If it worked that way, there'd be no reason for some multi-tools to have 20+ slots. And I see lots of ships that have 40+ slots, they're just very expensive (as they should be). What you should do is have different ships and specialize them for different purposes, like a fighter with engine/shield/weapon upgrades and then a hauler with lots of free space/mining tools/long-distance item teleporter. If you try to cram everything onto one ship, you're gonna have a bad time.
I got mine from the first space station I visited in my starting system. There is a technology vendor that sells blueprints. They won't all have it (it's random or something) but always check those blueprint vendors in the space stations for upgrades.
Yeah it's not the most elegant system but it is part of the way you progress in the game. You will gain access to better tools with more slots and better ships with more storage and suit upgrades for more personal cargo etc..
Also, the multi-tool tech that is of the same type and installed next to each other used to link and provide added bonuses. I haven't figured out if that is still the case post-patch but if so that would be an added benefit from multiple "upgrades" of the same type in one tool.
Yeah, and I guess micro managing small inventoriies is a good way to learn about the minerals and these worlds but what really drives me bonkers is that the game doesn't allow us to just temporarily drop items so that we can craft othre stuff and then pick the items back up. No, we have to completely disregard the items :/
cool 2 mill cost. lots of asteroid mining to get it.
the first thing i did was work on maxing my inventory when i started. made life so much easier. i managed to max my multitool along that path as well. then was working on maxing my ship when i got bored i guess and moved on. now im back and i have more stuff to do. inventories were a pain in the butt, but its so worth it now im done again. the tech slot is AMAZING, and the cargo section is just OP as ♥♥♥♥. if u run out of actual inventory space when u cap those things... u are either in the middle of crafting something at ur base/freighter lol or u are doing it wrong lol.
Yes, that's how it works now. The base technologies (like say, phase beam) are availiable in every station, and the upgrades that used to be ranked from Sigma to Theta are now random and don't require a blueprint, being instead bought as a pre-crafted thing ready to install.
Those are now the 'modules' and instead of only being able to install 3 upgrades (sigma to theta) for each basic tech, you can install 3 (or possibly more, I didn't try more) of any rank between C and S. So you could have 3 S rank upgrades for the same Phase Beam (or mining laser, or hyperdrive, or whatever).
Also the stats that each upgrade affect are random, and how much of a bonus it gives is also random, with the % number indicating how much of a bonus it gives to the random stats it affects.
So, for example, a Phase Beam upgrade of Rank C might affect damage or decrease overheating, while a Rank S upgrade would probably affect both (and other stats as well). Always check the tooltip to see what the upgrade does, they're not all the same.
Looks like we'll have to get lucky and come across that specific module again. Kind of lame but it seems like you'll come across similar things often enough.
