Chromatic metal farming
The grind to get this key asset, one of the most important materials in the game is monstrous, we must find metalic deposits (i.e: copper), the deposit won't respawn ... and they stay forever in our scanner even depleted (this should be changed), I can't count how many times I traveled to a dry ore. Not cool.

So I thought about the issue and found a nice system, I am sure seasoned vets know it but I will share it for the newcomers.

The autonomous mining unit:

It's built with some basic materials and 100 Uranium, look for a good deposit around your base, you can place five units, place a beacon, they harvest at slow speed but they won't deplete the deposit, go to do other things and come back periodically to harvest your hard earned copper (or other materials), replenish the unit with carbon (chose one with a good supply of plants around), 1250 in each farming run.

You know you can get coper silver and gold in asteroid belts now?

If you want chromatic metal, there is a much better way. Find a planet with activated indium, farm it. 250 of that turns into 1000 chromatic metal.

Too slow. And never found copper.

Platinum, Silver, Gold and Tritium yes, copper never. Perhaps it changes in each system.

I mean even if you farm up the deposits... theres like what 18 trillion planets...
Your never going to truly run out, they can't make the game too easy or whats the point of the survival and exploration aspect.

You can survive as you want, 400 M freighters are not really the classic idea of "survival game".

Yes, you can fly around and farm all the deposits of the universe, but you will waste time and ship fuel, so you must grind again to keep the machine going, all this time you only farmed one material.

With a system like this you can be doing other stuff and when you are back to home .... bam, 1250 copper units, with only a small cost in carbon.

Space station teleport to your base?

I found a barren planet with tons of copper deposits and managed to gather like 3000 copper and just flew up to the station and teleport to my base.
this isn't really a game of immediate results, i think tahts what creative is for.

These planets are massive and from space it tells you if the planet has copper. If you mine it clean where it is near your house, well guess what, fly a distance from your house. Copper is super plentiful.

Again, you are wasting time just farming one material. With this system you are more effective in cost and time.

3000 is nothing, chromatic metal is used for everything, we need a constant income of it and the grind is huge.

Even mining a planet clean is super hard, not sure if even possible... Try this, fly back to orbit go further than were you originally landed, bingo whole new continent for you to explore. I think people forget the scales of planets, that what I do if an area seems depleted... then there are trillions of planets you can mine, you'll never run out. Also you can step away from the refiner and keep running it while mining. Honestly, been playing the game for past 2 days and material for chromatic metal has never been an issue for me.

This. I've only found activated emeril though. Not activated Indium yet. ;__;

just take out Freighter with metal storage near space station , easy to get and easy to escape

One more a great tip from you LoboFH

I indeed dismissed them prior to NEXT, but I may start to think using those...
specially in conjunction of this nice guide about refineries you gave on an other post.

I hated to need to find so much copper, but I'm sometimes so masochist I did not even wanted to think of an easyer way.

So thanks for sharing once again

I used copper because it's the basic resource in my home planet, but you can farm any deposit with this system.

If Indium is more profitable this system still applies. Farm Indium.

Activated indium is in blue systems.

Also refine the material you use to recharge your mining tools (I think ferrite to pure ferrite to magnetized ferrite if I remember right for the terrain tool?) It uses just a bit to recharge your tool so you don't have to go mining for more material all the time.
