I cannot pick up the portable refiner.

You have to remove the input ressource and the processed one.
Fuel does not matter. Only then can you pick it up.

I have this issue as well. Can't pick up anything even though it is empty. Hold the button all day long and nothing.

There have been issues with key bindings, i had it for the E key not working and had to click the default key binding button then setup my prefered keys again.

You MUST have space in your inventory for the Fuel AND the portable refinery, the fuel will empty first to your inventory THEN you will pick up the portable refinery.

Fallen over this way to many times, if you dont get the spinny circle of pickup, reset your key bindings and try again.

Are you clicking it or holding it down? Everything in NMS is about holding down buttons. And as long as both the input and output inventories are empty, it should just work by holding down the middle mouse button. Assuming your keybindings are mapped that way.

I had the same, go into controls, find the PICK UP button and remind it, I just did it to L
Go back to your item and hold L and it'll pick up as long as you have 2 slots free (if it has fuel inside like mine did)

That's not how the game has implemented it and not how I have to do it. The middle mouse hold work perfectly. Something else is causing this issue for you.

I actually ran into the problem that I had filled all of my inventory slots with items (including my purified feros(sp?) So I couldn't pick anything up until I moved something to my ship's storage.
