How to use the economy scanner efficiently?
I've got one of those in my ship so I can start exploring for a good economy system to build my base on. The problem is that when I turn on this filter, I have 0 idea of what the colors mean and it doesn't seem to mean anything at all... I still have to scroll through all planets to find rich economies. Any hints?

I have a feeling that you didn't actually read his post.

Yes , sorry , i had a few to post answers on, i just read the heading, . i find that using the rich and sell high systems are moslty been better for me. i think the colours are for if its declining-red, staedy, yellow, and growing green. could be wrong ofc.

Pre NEXT it made a huge impact on the game. I made a nice 5 - 10 mil an hour using it. NEXT removed commodity trading, and along with that almost all of the trading components as I understood them. Now, aside from scanning for trading outposts, I have no idea what purpose it serves. And that they left in the map filter is even more confusing.

Hopefully someone with more insight chimes in.

Well from what I've read on Reddit it's nice to have a base on high economy systems so that you can get S class ships more easily, get more alien visitors and also NPCs sell more goodies. I'm mostly confused about the color code in it..

Actually those goods can be aquired through missions reward. so look around the mission boards in space stations.
SO that's the good thing, they are still around
The bad thing is.. well you get only 3 per mission reward (at least for now for me) and you can't have so many of the same sort....
So maybe at some point I may have to switch my storage system, and store those goods until I visit the system...

but definitely not worth the hassle those days, I simply sell them for whatever at the station I got them as a reward.

Exactly my strategy now.

and.. did you know that you can always scan for nearby trading post if you have economy scanner installed on your ship?

quick menu > utilities > economy scanner

That information is mostly out of date now with NEXT..

After installing the economy scanner when in the star map while selecting a star it goes from "?" "unknown" to low-med or high which translates in any type of words like "prospering" would be a rich good high economy system.

Some may be out of date, but the basics should still be the same:

Another thing is that when you have one, you can use the X key and select the far left option to then select "scan for trade buildings" .. those offer better payouts than space stations .. which is the whole point of trying to focus on trade one would think.

The color code doesn't tell you the prosperity of the economy, it shows you what type of economy it is, which is really only important if you're trading goods between star systems. You need to search through the start systems in the galaxy map until you find one with a rich economy.
