Is there a way to disable auto climbing ladders?

Every time I try to walk to the other side of my base my guy grabs the ladder on his own. It is driving me nuts. Is there a way to fix this? I mean why even have an option to use the ladder if just walking near it you get on it?

One thing that helps, on ladders in the center of a round room, is to rotate the ladder such that you don't hit it as often from the most used direction. And when walking by choose the side to the rear of the ladder.

Also, if you have multip[le levels, alternate the direction of the ladders.
