What sometimes works- is to leave the planet and come back down very far from your last location. It seems like I find the lion's share near buildings and checking out building is useful in any case.
Surprising to me, got my first post Next 100% on a hostile sentinal planet. I was primarily hiding out from them, but did a lot of scanning from the tops of buildings and got lucky. Sents are not very bright, so it takes them a long time to find you if you can get high up on something.
i can vouch that there are cave creatures. i have found several, as in, having to go deep into caves, or being able to red dot them through the surface level.
as for whispering eggs.. the creatures that spawn from them cannot be scanned. so i don't think they are added to the overall scannable creatures for the planet. infact i know they are not, as i have cleared a couple planets without breaking those eggs open.
also, the "alpha" type, is a red dot to the normal type, but does not count to the overall scan discoveries, as it is not a "new" creature, just a sub species type.
i have cleared a couple planets.. but the ones that are the hardest for me to find and the creature that gives me the most problems to complete a scan on a planet.. are the "exotics".. and those GDAM MOTHS!!! so hard to target and scan them. anger.
HG! make the scan area for the moths larger please.
all the best.
Sky
Water
Cave
Cave should always have 1 creature, if you hav'nt checked caves, or seen no creatures, you need a bigger cave.
I agree but I haven't seen yet any tiny bugs in NEXT. I still get the impression that scanning nearly ALL the plants on a planet enables the last creature to show up.
Some animals only show up at sunrise or right before sunset.
There still seem to be ratios of animals. It's not always in these numbers but some sort of simple integer ratios- 3 land : 1 sky/water/cave. If you are missing one of eight and already have 2 flying and 5 land, it will likely be a land.
If you spend over two "days" on a planet trying whatever caves/water/air/valley/plateau, just move on. It's frequently faster with the next planet.
Then I landed in another and got all 7 species there in like 10min. Landed twice, in the open.
It's just luck. If the last one isn't showing, I'd recommend giving up. Next planet might be much easier.
