Noob question: where to get Pugneum?

Total noob here. Seems I need this stuff to open the box that you are lead to right after you leave the first planet. Where do I get it? I've tried a Galactic Trade terminal, no luck.

I think you can get them from killing sentinels. I found this stuff quite hard to get.

Space sentinels give good amount of it.

Build a weapon tech on your multitool and kill sentinels. You can kill them with a mining lazer but it's worth building a weapon.

Like everyone said, OP, either buy a blueprint, buy a module or trade for a Multi-tool with a Boltcaster on it. Also, friendly advice...as you're starting off with a basic weak weapon, I suggest once you beat the first wave, leg it. The second wave is armor coated and will be fairly tough with an un-boosted starter weapon mod.

Boltcaster needs Chromatic Metal to make; I cannot mine Copper yet as I don't have the Terrain Manipulator (still very early in the game).

Anyway, I went back to the planet to try to kill a sentinel, and no matter how much I mined stuff, they refused to show up. :/

Sorry for reviving an old thread but I've killed sentinals as well as sentinal ships and only thing new I got was a mind control unit. I need Pugneum and sentinals not dropping any. Is there another way to get it?

Once they pull out the giant walking starwars like sentinals I'm done, no way for me to beat them. I've died many times with nothing gained lol

also to take out the big sentinals break its leg armor then its head and then its chest and you can kill them pretty easy

I know it's a late reply, but for future new players: go to space station and wait for traveling merchant NPCs to come, approach them and request trade. Some of them have Pugneum to sell, thats how I got it to repair 2 ships without even leaving first solar system.
