SO will someone be so kind as to explain how to switch between all these multi-tools? IT said "your collection" so the old ones got to be in my N space somewhere right?
Now there is a true gamer thinking outside the box. That is exactly what I do for important areas. Even though I seldom stay in one place very long.
This is an exploration game after all. Telling a developer they need to change there exploration game into a stay local and not explore game is sort of... ( can't say it ) Be nice, Be respectful...
You can "summon" your multi-tool in the same menu as your ships.
That's the method I use since losing several ships due to in game solutions randomly vanishing.
But, otherwise, there isnt a proper planetary map. Its not really a feasible thing to do, really, since each and every planet was procedurally generated and there are literally quintillions of planets. 18,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets, if Hello Games are to be trusted.
edit: Totally forgot about beacons, which are cheaper then building bases every which where.
But it won't be Hello Games. And it won't be soon.
For OP, planet mapping is a problem on several levels.
The question becomes how much detail would it show and how long would it be retained. The more detail the larger your save file gets. This is important because playstations can only support a 100 G file. I checked my recent save on PC and it is already a 68 G. That does not leave a lot of room for storing maps. I did not check other formats but I am guessing each system has file size limits of some kind.
If you play for any length of time, you will discover hundreds of planets and each would now need a map. So, that means the maps have to be scarce on details...maybe only the last ten spots you have been to shown as very primitive icon points. They would still need to go away pretty quickly or your save file would exceed the maximum.
I am guessing HG looked at doing it and decided there were no good trade-offs that made it a viable go.
NMS doesn't need maps, it just needs a zoom :)
It might even be possible to mod this.
How do you have a save file over 68 GB?
THat doesn't make any sense.
THis game literally will never save that much data onto a person's computer.
Not until they've visited something along the lines of a few trillion planets.
Also, there was a huge issue years ago in this game where it wouldn't save properly if the save game went over 5 GB.
So, how the heck did you get to 68GB?!
Even Minecraft would take forever to reach 68GB for a world!
Also, it would be cool if clicking a waypoint saved on the discoveries page would make a destination waypoint on the HUD for that location.
The discovery tab shows all the resources, fauna and flora that you have found so if you need to go back to a particular planet just look at it.
As far as a map goes for each individual planet, why would you need one just put down a beacon. The scanner shows you where everything is in your area. Also a map would completely take away from the idea of exploring, which is what the game is all about.
