HOWTO: restore base
Following instructions on a couple different posts (thanks, peeps!), I went through a lengthy and somewhat frustrating search for a 'suitable base location' to restore my pre-NEXT base, and was eventually successful. So it can be done. Here's how.

First thing you need is one or more encrypted navigation data disks (search the group for suggestions). Then:

Build a signal booster, and input the navigational data
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1455449481

Scan for 'habitable outposts'
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1455450840

You're looking for a 'shelter'. If you don't get one, try a couple more times with the signal booster. If you get one, put your visor center point on the icon on the horizon (no need to scan or analyze). If it doesn't change to say 'habitable base' when you look at it, it's not what you're looking for. Reload your save to get the navigational data disk back, fly somewhere else (one poster suggested flying up into near space and re-landing elsewhere), plunk your signal booster back down and try it again. You may have to do this many times. It took me probably ten or fifteen of these cycles before I hit the jackpot. Here's a pictorial cookbook:

Clearly if you flew over one of these and were paying close attention you could recognize it from the air on account of the large flat circular pad with the dark spherical computer in the middle. However I flew this planet for hours and never happened to spot one.

The restoration was pretty good, but not quite perfect. My roamer pad came back, but the exocraft was still elsewhere deep underground. It returned when I called it. But my nomad and colossus exopads weren't restored. I crafted the two missing exopads and successfully called the exocraft, and all their inventories were complete. Someone else didn't get his starship landing pad back, but mine was restored and I successfully called the ship. The exterior doors that I had crafted - holo door and another regular door on one of the other buildings - appear where they should, but they're not attached to the buildings; there are bare walls behind them. Easy to fix. And as you see, all the floors inside the base are covered with grass. But all the interior stuff was there, including my little demonstration hydroponics garden, with each of its plants. And ALL ten of my storage containers were restored, including all their contents, although the contents were of course upgraded and morphed into NEXT-style resources.

I hope this works for you.

Oddly enough didn't worked for me, found a base with only a computer, took it and still nothing, no prompt to make it come back, do I need to find my old base location?

When I get home from work, I'll give this a shot. I had so many resources saved, as well as many greenhouses with plants in them.

After the latest experimental update I was finally able to recover my base. After searching for hours upon hours for a base computer "in the wild", after the update, all I had to do was press C to scan while on foot (with the base restoration mission active) and it marked a suitable location.

Now what do I craft in order to get back the 4 hours of my life I spent trying to restore my base before the patch?

Yeah I was able to get mine back too with the new experamental patch. Had to fix it up a bit though because I had grass clipping through my base floor and the base building computer was right smack in the middle of my buiding blocking a ladder.
Foxtrot39 Jul 27, 2018 @ 2:16pm
Oh thats linked/locked to the experimental build/next patch?
Defektiv Jul 27, 2018 @ 2:17pm
Well now I know why I never found one just flying around. It's just a base computer in the grass and nothing else.

Awesome guide. I dont need it quite yet, but will use it when i need it. Thank you!

you can also find a habitable base by doing a PLANETARY SCAN while in space.
I just did it in the experimental branch while the Base Restoration mission was active.

Do a planetary scan and you would get a notification about a habitable base.
This might not work with derelict systems though

I have success! Thanks, Tom!

What is the "base restoration Mission" and how do you get it?

Pre-nest I had a signal BP but now I don't. Where to get it? Did you guys get it with the update?

The base restoration mission should already be in your log. Press P, it will be listed as a secondary quest. Of note, I updated NMS to the experimental build before I tried all of this.

7/27 experimental patch just fixed the Base Restoration Quest. Went to my original planet that wiped out my base, performed a scan and a waypoint to a suitable location popped up immediately. Ran to the Base Computer and restored my Archived base with all of its belongings.

I've been trying this for the past few hours with no luck. Glad it does work for others. I'll probably just wait until the experimental goes live and hope that helps me.

You need to update to the experimental build in order to get it. That's why you have no luck. I did a backup of my saves just to be safe. Go ahead, give it a try.
Cirith Jul 28, 2018 @ 1:59am
I did this on experimental, i tracked the secondary log quest for my base restoration it gave me a way point to the round flat circle and it has the ' computer in the wild ' located there and it said claim old base there.
