Can't see friend in game

I never see my friend when he joins, no icon on the compass either. He never sees me either when I join his game.

We're in the same exact location every time we try. Both on the station unable to see each other or see an icon.

The very first time we tried it I could see him, but he couldn't see me. After that, neither of us ever saw each other again even after multiple restarts and after the newest patch.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Ah nevermind, I see it now. It's on, and has been on for both my friend and I. This is baffling as it seems like pretty much no one else is having this issue. I've only found 2 other people having this problem and there's no solution for them either.

Did you try warping to another system together and meeting up at the space station? That may work.

Have you tried joining each others game yet? Are both of you connected to the discovery servers?

We've both tried joining each other. Right now I can see him again, but he can't see me. Usually neither of us can see each other. What are the discovery servers?

Hmmm... it says "you have lost connection to the Discovery servers." It says the same thing for me friend. Not sure what that means or what to do about it.

I've got the EXACT same issue trying to play with my friend. No response in my thread whatsoever. This needs to get to the devs. I've filed a support request on their website, though they might not get back at all.

I can't believe this doesn't have a solution yet. I finally solved it by logging out of my Cisco VPN for work. We can see each other now.

Exact same problem as OP. We have tried everything we can think of. Uninstalling, re-installing, one or the other starting a world, Windows Firewall options. He originally had a graphical mod file, and we couldn't see each other at all, then he deleted that MOD folder, and after that I was able to see him and his icons/ships,etc, but he couldn't see me. 10 further attempts, and no luck. Best was always that I could see his avatar, but he couldn't see me. He could immediately see any items I placed in the base, like save point, blueprint analyzer, etc, but could never see me. I could transfer items to his inventory using Quick Transfer, but it always told him that I was too far away (I showed up as an option, but never close enough even when right in front of him). No resolution yet that I can find or try. We just tried downloading Hamachi, and got it set up and were able to connect to each others Minecraft worlds (as a test for LAN connection) and will be testing NMS with this tomorrow.

Weird, never had issue with seeing someone. Check all those network settings, make it same. And maybe delete some addons if u two have some.

I was having this issue of not being able to see each other with a friend or sometimes me seeing them them not seeing me. Refinery sometimes not working or opening and out of sync weather patterns. Turns out the friend was running a VPN. the moment the VPN was bypassed everything worked like a charm.

Are you both playing the same game mode and in the same platform? There is no cross platform play allowed.

In theory, you should at least see them if they are normal and you are on survival. but just know that from hearsay. Never done it. I do know that you can't effectively MP with someone else in a different game mode. They can see stuff you can't and vice versa.
