Can't find mission list agent on station
I'm trying to get enough money to craft something for my warp drive (still in the beginning system) and one of the things it reccommends for making money is to accept missions. Problem is, there is no mission giver anywhere on the station. I talked to everyone, including near base portal.

Am I suppose to reach a certain point in the game first?

Check the bridge computer on your frieghter. There are three terminals each do different things and one seemed to offer missions.

You can scan your planet to find a station where you might get offered a job. I just got one asking me to go scan minerals.

When you land on SPACE station (not on anything on planet) you then go to the left deck, and there are 2 desks. one of them is the mission agent.

The right deck is to buy techs & expand exosuit and has smore than 2 desks.

But then indeed, in some planetary buildings, you can be granted one random task. Issue is you can only turn it back at this very place, as opposed to station missions that can be completed at any station (even 10 system later)
That's why you try to have as many active missions that have same goal, such as scanning animals - plants, kill animals, kill sentinels, as they pile up for reward... so 10 mission with kill 4 sentinels is 4 sentinels killed = 10 rewards

Both people on the 2 desks won't give me any missions.

the left guy when facing them should, but indeed maybe you need to gain some sort of "standing"

I do so many things in game without really noticing, I may even have gotten that standing without knowing what I have done... that includes killing pirates, learning words, gaining units in any other way.

Once you get sort of "high" standing, the right desk guy will welcome you with units once you talk to him.

I love the game, but sometimes the uncertainity of things just kills my enjoyment. I'll just build up my standing and see if that unlocks the mission giver.

Yeah you need to gain favour with that race. Best thing to do is ask them to teach you their language. Most lifeforms seem to love that. As soon as you level that up then the mission station attendants of that race will give you missions at the left desk but you need to get in with the guild to get the right desk so don't worry about that for now.

And really this is not something you should be worrying about until you get in a couple of warps.

Sorry I can't give you mre details as to how... I just went by so fast I did not pay real atttention to it.
I restarted because I wanted to have a fresh restart, but have played the game and this part of the storyline, so I anticipate too some things here and there

Awesome. Thanks. I don;t mind not being able to get missions yet. I just wanted to know whether or not my game got bugged out.
