How to share a base with other players?

It was my understanding that we should now be able to build bases together with friends, be we cannot for the life of us figure out how. The closest we get is the ability to push middlemouse and choose one of the other players when building a base item.
Wasn't multiplayer bases one of the big things?

Step 1. Join a friend's server.
Step2. Build bases next to each other
Step 3. Build portal
Step 4. Upload base to network
Step 5. Quit and load your solo save, find a space station then teleport to base you built.

Now you'll both be able to go in and out of each other's bases and harvest anything you grow when offline. That's the best you can do now.

that's stupid. i expect to be able to allow my friends to use the teleporters and my freight boxes.

in a game where you cna't do mcuh else than make bases this is a huge disappointment.

I certainly hope they will improve it, was under the impression that base objects would be shared. I appreciate your solution, it just isn't quite what I and many others expected..

haha yes i discovered the game aound that time and trying to build something with my friend was a traumatic experience

check the date of my original answer lol.

back then, multiplayer was new and you could really only do basebuilding. obviously nowadays theres much more to do, but 5 years later and you still cant basebuild together

Base complexity settings control the render distance of base parts. The settings can be found in options and adjusted by each player to improve performance of rendering bases.

On particularly large bases If playing in groups with friends, it helps if all players use similar settings for the same experience. Different hardware platform set ups will also dictate the fps and how scenes render effectively for different players across varying internet connections.
