Can't do the triangulation quest

I did the first part with the holo. Then arrived at the observatory in the second planet marked as "Suitable location". I attempt to place signal booster inside the building, on top of the building, next to the building. Anything, but absolutely nothing happens. It does not allow me to triangulate in the signal booster, it does not update the quest, it doesn't do anything.

2 years and still bugs like these?

I had exacty the same problem, i used the terra manipulator and placed it underneath the station, u have to get about 5 -7 meters underneath the structure, just try it =)

I was able to get around this by using the terrain manipulator to tunnel under the structure. Placed the signal booster under the marker and allowed me to triangulate.

Fixed it by leaving the planet. When I came back I was able to triangulate the location.

I had the same problem - with the next update - bug still here.
if the 2nd or 3rd triangle position is IN a house/market/oberservation, what ever, its possible that the quest ist NOT changing from "go to" to "place", so you cant triangle the position from inside.

i solved it:

1.) get out of airship
2.) place signal booster next to the buildungs entry (as close as possible)
3.) start signal booster
4.) got inside airship
5.) get outside (autosave)
6.) load autosave
7.) start signalbosster
8.) triangle position :-)

The above method is confirmed. It does work. If the marker is inside a building, no need to dig, or pull your hair out.

Just put your signal booster on the ground, right in the corner where the ramp meets the entrance. Activate the booster once, then leave the booster there, go to your ship. Get in, then right back out to create an auto save. Exit the the game selection screen, load the auto save, then go back to your beacon. When you get to the beacon, the quest will trigger, instructing you to triangulate.

This bug seems to be persistant. Some people may not get hit by it, but apparently, if you DO get hit by it, starting a new game doesn't even help. I deleted and restarted new 6 times now, and I got hit with it in ever single restart. once, twice, maybe 3 times I'd assume it's random. But 6 times in a row... thats too much. Suggests to me that if you get it, you have it no matter how many times you restart.

And yes, I know this is an old thread, but you can see, even after all this time, HG has not even bothered to address it.

Hey mate, I had the exact same issue and none of the solutions posted here helped, I managed to fix it though by realising that it kinda looked like it was directing me below ground, so I dug down a bit and the quest prompt changed from "proceed to triangulation area" to "place signal booster" then I could do the triangulate. Stupid fix but there you go, hope that helps ya.

Years later... yes the bug still persists! But the method above proves to be a good workaround :) Thanks!

For anyone still here, looking for answers, you should try saving your game (entering your ship and leaving it) after putting it down, if it has no "Triangulate Position" option. Then, simply restart your game. It worked for me.

I had to land on each planet, place the beacon (didn't work), Pick up beacon, enter and exit ship to save, then exit the entire game. Once i loaded back in I was able to use it properly. I had to do this every time.
