I lost my portable refiner.

You can't, there's no marker for it. The tutorial says you should stay nearby while it's in use.

My first refiner glitched and would not let me put it in my inventory for some reason. I made sure I got everything out of it first also, but It popped up a red error message anytime I tried to pick it up.

same happend to me, spent some hours looking for it while I harvested the planetary resources. HAd to leave it cause some fuktard sentinels wouldnt leave me alone. Does the game delete it when I leave, or will it remain there for all eternity?

I just experienced something glitchy. I was playing with a friend and we were gathering whispering eggs. We each made a refiner on the roof. My inventory got full so I jumped in my ship to play the inventory dance. My friend left and when I jumped on the roof to get my refiner and the mats/fuel it looked like he picked up my refiner? The one that was left was not where I placed it and it had no mats in it. No biggie...he got my mats so I'll just pick up his refiner and be on my way but then I couldn't pick up his refiner. I could use it but it wouldn't let me pick it up?

So either he was able to pick up mine and I couldn't pick up his or my refiner just poofed because I jumped in my ship? I have no idea!

I leave a pretty substantial trail of portable deployables in my paths unintentionally. Good thing they are reasonably cheap to rebuild.

There is no marker for your old refiner. If you wander too far away and lose it, it's gone. However, contrary to what others have said, I have stumbled upon old refiners that I left behind after logging off/starting back up. I tend to spend a lot of time on a few planets, so I inevitably tread over the same ground from time to time. Specifically, I experienced this when I was farming drop pods to max my suit inventory. (Permadeath isn't the kind of play-mode that lends itself to exploring new planets too frequently. It's better to find a moderately peaceful, easy star system and stay there, rather than run the risk of encountering an unanticipated extreme storm or aggressive creature that sneaks up behind you.)

That said, it's pretty easy to build a save beacon near your portable refiner if you need to go back to it. You can pick both of them up and carry them both with you when you want to move on. Either that, or do all your refining near your starship.

Ah well, portable or not, its better to build stuff around some of your bases, so you can definitely return to them. Im not sure about if its there till eternity, I have left a few ones behind too. The thing is, even if you happen to find again there is a fair chance that the resource inside will be lost anyways.

If you desperate for that copper amount I can lend a hand with that.
