Billions of undiscovered planets still.
hughesis Jul 24, 2018 @ 12:10pm
yes there are supposed to be 18 quintillion planets or so to explore so you have plenty of space to explore
Chaunsey Jul 24, 2018 @ 12:10pm
you're joking right? there are literally 17 quintillion planets, we could all spend our whole lives doing nothing but play NMS and never discover the vast majority of them.

Chances of finding other discoveries unless joining other people on purpose to see it is very low. that is how big the seed is for this game

Thanks. I bought the game after playing it for a few weeks in a row on PS4 launch dat.
Hope pc still has some undiscovered!

That's a myth. Just marketing fodder.

Back when I played daily, I came across claimed systems and planets nearly every day. Drove me nuts. I restarted my game over 40 times hoping to get seeded in some unpopulated part of this supposedly 2^64 planet universe, but it never happened, and I gave up trying.

Given the player base was less than 500 at the time, my experience was statistically impossible unless, of course, the game is not as random as everyone foolishly thinks it is.

I only ever found two different players in all my hours. Each had obviously been to many systems in that area but it was still just two people. I went the other way and never saw their name again.

I've never been to a planet that was already discovered by another player. That's after a lot of play.

Well that for sure is your experience however there is no myth in it, the map is right there, in front of you, you can explore it all, I have found 1 system already visited by someone and that was it, and that was ages ago.
Wouldn't matter either way, I mean unless you just REALLY wanna be the first to discover a planet and name it or whatever... I mean the planet will always be undiscovered by you till you get there anyway. You will get to explore all you want but so far it seems any planet I run into is undiscovered.

I just restarted in the First Galaxy and no Planet in my starting System has been discovered in the last 2 years. So yes, plenty to find.

The game does have 18 quintilion planets, but they are divided up into 256 different galaxies; everybody starts in the same galaxy, so that's the source of your issue.

I think I'm on the eighth galaxy now? I don't know, I've given up counting lol. Either way, I think I spotted a single discovered star system in the galaxy I'm in now. The more galaxies you can get to, the fewer people you'll find.
Rando Jul 24, 2018 @ 1:45pm
I've never come across a system/planet/thing/etc. renamed by another person.
Mosey Jul 24, 2018 @ 1:50pm
I've got maybe 180 hours in with a few hundred planets and have never, ever, seen anyone elses name.

There are more worlds than could be discovered if billions of us played this game all day, every day.

User experience will vary.

You do know that (2^64)/(2^8) = 2^56, right? You sure that's the source of the issue? Really?

1 in 72057594037927936 chance that me and some other players would all wind up in the same spot 40 times in row.... hmmm... okay. You must be right.
