What are the most efficient ways to diplo hunt?
Posted this on reddit but it got buried so I got no responses.

I'm trying to find a nice diplo planet, but there was some things I was wondering about how to do it efficiently. My current assumptions are as follows:

- Diplos are considered rare, or at least megafauna versions are so I don't need to find every land animal in an ecosystem to be sure they aren't on a planet, just find all the rare ones

- Diplos are more likely to be found on lush planets due to the fact that they often have more animals, or that animals are more common, so skipping non-lush planets is a good idea (I am in essentiam so lush planets are pretty abundant, at least one per non-colored system)

Are these assumptions correct, and is there anything else I should know that will help expedite the process of finding a planet with diplos? I want to find my own planet so I can name the discoveries myself.

In all my hours of playing I have not noted once any form of creature that would resemble a Diplo. There are a few combinations that could lead to a Diplo-looking creature that others have found, but nothing could even come close to resembling what was in the trailers so many years ago. World generation is still not a reason to play this game for.

Creatures of the same rough amount can be found on any type of planet that isn't desolate, lush isn't special; toxic, radioactive, frozen, rocky desert (let's be real, there are no REAL desert planets in this game as of now) and lush are all the types I can list down. If you have water on the planet there may be more animal types overall since the extra will come with water-based creatures may be, I'm not entirely sure, can vary depending on the land to water ratio on the planet.

So in short, try looking for planets that don't have that much water on may be and are not anything weird that could fall in the desolate type category in any way. But really, I would suggest you not to bother, you may very well be disappointed in the end if you find any creatures that do resemble diplos and have no guarantee that you will ever find one at all.

Thanks for the advice, I'll go ahead and check out the other planet types.

You seem to be under the impression that diplos don't actually spawn in game, outside of some small disappointing examples. While it is true that they do not spawn the way shown in that trailer, the ones that do exist are actually quite satisfying in terms of expectations. I have several examples below:

I found a diplo today ! ... Only problem is that it was pocket size... So, no giant egg, no diplo chunk. Again, some hours without any progress ^^v
