I don't want to restart. I spent a lot of time in this game. I'd like to know of there Is a chance to have my old base back.
Assuming your save is more than a year or so old, I assume that you last played before that revamp, that also changed the planets in the system.
In my Case, my old home system is almost entirely different and I had a mission to follow to find a suitable spot to restore my base, as it was just gone.
On Arriving to a suitable location, I could restore my base completely, everything as it was before.
Just with no power whatsoever since that was not in the game back then.
So you should be able to do that too, just keep in mind most stuff wont work immediately, since you need to provide power to the base first.
Bonus fun fact:
It even restored the Fungal Clusters I once planted just outside my door, even though I am no longer on a Toxic world. They still grow just fine.
The main story missions have been significantly changed as well, with more lore and slightly more interesting tasks.
However after the NEXT update, well over a year ago now, your current base was able to be restored when you placed a computer base unit. It was a new option to restore your base in a new location. This was because terrain levels had changed. This worked following the NEXT update so I presume it may also work with the most current version of the game but may only work with NEXT. What I do not know is if it works with several bases if you had built more than one or only just your last current one (the last one uploaded to HGs server.)
If you kept back ups of your save folders you may be able to find your other bases. What you can do and I have done, is download the last version of the game you were familiar with like Atlas Rises maybe? Or NEXT? Or Abyss? You could then play your game save as it was last played.
If you open your base in the NEXT update you should get the restore base option. Make new separate folder back ups of each base you may want to keep in that game version (and make a note of the version opened as it can become confusing).
Then reopen them one at a time using the current, Synthesis update. When you open any save folder it updates to that version and is not backwards compatible. SO DO MAKE BACK UPS BEFORE ATTEMPTING CHANGES TO YOUR GAME SAVES.
If you can not create a final save folder with all your bases within one game folder (updating through each game version until the current one), then you will be able to import bases using a third party mod called NMS Save Editor. This is why it is useful to have a collection of your bases in their previous save folders. It is not as complicated as you might think and there are plenty of tutorials on Steam and on youtube explaining how to do all of the above. One caveat though is knowing which version of the Save Editor works with earlier updates. Also, park your character on the planet with the base you want, if you can journey to that location in the old save version. Then you will be present on that planet when you finally update to the Synthesis version which makes finding things easier.
However if you update your save folder collections to Synthesis you should be able to find any of your bases with the latest synthesis mod version of the editor. Otherwise you will have to use the previous mod version for the particular NMS game at the time both were compatible.
Synthesis has introduced dramatic changes to the Discoveries page but I think, though again not certain, within the save file structure the data is there about all your bases and it is that which the third party mod save editor reads and writes to. The save editor makes copying and pasting any base date simple. But always make a backup before trying anything.
Hope that helps. If you have older saves untouched you may be successful.
